What's The Last Movie You’ve Seen?

I didn't like this one as much as I expected despite it being filled with some great De Palma moments and I liked the simplicity of the story of mobster rule over Chicago. But this movie is very inconsistent. Starting with De Niro as Al Capone as you can imagine he is great, problem is that he's sparsely used, you have something great here why not utilize it more. Instead we get more of Kevin Costner's character and his underdeveloped wife, who I thought both were kind of dull/not memorable. I also had some issues with the tone of the movie, it was inconsistent, Ennio Morricone's score is strangely one of it's strength but also one of it's weaknesses. Speaking of performances I was surprised Sean Connery won a oscar for this, like he's at least a memorable character but Oscar caliber?! I dunno. Like everything in this movie his performance there were some highs and some lows.

This movie is very 80's, so much so there is actually a 80's style music video in it. I really liked the music from this movie, there's something very hypnotic about it that works well with the voyeuristic shots. Some great shots in this movie, there is scene at the mall that stands out that you can tell was carefully planned and it's great. I gotta say a lot of this movie I found just strange up until the ending which reveals some things and it's kind of a ahhh I see what you were doing there, pretty clever. Some of it is predictable but there were things I didn't see coming.

I thought were some scenes that were a bit much/kind of cheesy that hurt the quality of it, there were times I questioned why I was watching it but watch the whole movie through, in the end you'll probably end up liking it like I did. The cast is mostly people you wouldn't recognize, the main character reminds me of Bill Maher, I haven't seen him in anything else but he fits the role here. Melanie Griffith is the standout here though, she's quite good.

I saw "Solo" over the weekend. I enjoyed it, but I hadn't seen the original trilogy in quite a while so some of it didn't make sense to me and I had to look it up when I got home. The irony is that you really need to be an avid fan to get some of it, but the fanboys have been avoiding the movie.

Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom

I hadn't planned on watching this but I had a first date with this lovely girl and while thinking about what to do on the 2nd date I came up with 'movies' and she agreed. There's Solo, Oceans 8 and Jurassic Park and she chose Jurassic... so I was stuck with the choice. Personally I'd prefer Solo, Ocean 8 and Jurassic in that order, but what can you do?

I'm not the biggest fan of Jarassic Park and thought with the exception of the first 2 the instalments have been pretty lacklustre, especially the previous one.

But I thoroughly enjoyed this one. It was a bit different to the previous ones in that most of the 'attacks' happened on the 'mainland' not on the islands.

While plot and acting went out of the window, artistically I love the setting and there were some really memorable scenes. One scene was a mix of 'The Shining' and 'Jurassic Park' and it was AWESOME.

I'd actually love to watch it again once it came out. Was pretty entertaining, especially the final 40 min.

7.5/10 for me and that's a high score of Jurassic for me.

As far as how the date went, she brought he friend along so it was a non-date. But I'm hoping to invite her home for dinner next week... fingers crossed!!
