What's The Last Movie You’ve Seen?

Was getting Captain Fantastic vibe from this, pretty similar. The actress in this film was a phenom, there was something very real about her performance and you could see the growth in her with her character(apparently she's working with Edgar Wright in his next movie so that's something to look forward to). Ben Foster is always good. Something I liked was the people in the film apparently a lot were just real people, added to the authenticity of it. Pretty good film, worth a watch.

I was kind of bored with this, it wasn't bad, just not terribly interesting, following the same formula we've seen over and over. The music was really good though. If you were a big fan of this franchise you were probably loving it because it's a lot of the same and they did some good things with Jamie Lee Curtis character. I watched these movies years back and remember nothing from them except most were pretty bad. Might revisit this near Halloween but otherwise have no interest in it.
 
Watched Barry Lyndon again last night after reading the book, perhaps it's recency bias and perhaps it's cuz im a dude but I can;t help but think i've had it way too low in my "Kubrick film rankings"... **** it even might be #1..


Visually its just stunning too, looks like an old work of art but in motion.


The way the gammut of male perspectives, and how those perspectives age, is run thru in that movie is just such a thorough manner, surely that has slipped over many heads.

Plus the more times I watch that the funnier it gets... the way the society is painted, the way the characters interact it's a very funny reflection of modern society as well.

Ben Foster is my favorite and yes, the actress in that movie killed it.

I saw "The Best of Enemies" with Sam Rockwell and Taraji P Henson last weekend. "Based on the true story of a reluctant partnership between civil rights activist Ann Atwater and C.P. Ellis, the leader of the white supremacist group Ku Klux Klan, who came together to discuss the issue of racial desegregation of schools in 1971 Durham, North Carolina, which eventually lead to surprising outcomes for them and the entire community."

I loved it, but it was a little bit uncomfortable watching how horrible white people can be.

Hadn’t heard of this. I’m very intrigued. Rockwell’s generally very strong and I find the female lead to be fine in the acting (and looks) department in TD3 and a couple other things in which I’ve seen her.

My second favorite Kubrick after Paths of Glory.

Thanks. Yeah I forgot. I think it’s been on there for a long time and was maybe even free 6-12 months ago.

I just watched it for the second time myself a couple of weeks ago, my impressions were pretty much the same as yours. I don't remember it being as funny the first time I saw it either.

It an absolutely gorgeous film, the lighting of the gambling scene when he first meets Lady Lyndon in particular is just breathtakingly beautiful.
 
Decided to watch John Wick since I had some free time and nothing to do. I maybe had too high of expectations, but I found it pretty derivative, very very predictable, and boring. Pretty disappointed.

But it has pretty much every trope from every "ultra assassin" movie I've ever seen. Moody retired ultra-assassin with a grudge? Check. Multiple references to his almost supernatural awesomeness, his name spoken in fear and reverence? Check. Secret stash of weapons and money? Check. Essentially bulletproof (never gets hit for real)? Check. Friend helping on the inside? Check. Friend dies? Check. Escalating video game-esque "bosses" to fight? Check. Perfect aim with a thousand guys running from every angle but unable to shoot a single man running in a straight line? Check. Unlimited ammo in a single gun until the "plot" required him to run out so he could Bruce Lee everyone showing his otherworldly hand-to-hand fighting skills? Check.

Very little of this was original in any way. Even adopting a new dog I called in the first 5 minutes after his was killed. Too bad, I'd thought it would be fun to get into the franchise.
