Watching It Follows next week when it arrives here in Thailand.

I didn't get all the hubub over The Babadook either. Sure, it was creepy at points - but I just wasn't into the ending at all.

I haven't seen It Follows yet, but it's not getting glowing reviews on Jazzfanz lol.

I just watched Lone Survivor. I know I'm late to the party on that one, but I finally got around to seeing it and was very captivated.

In Bruges (2008)

On a friend's recommendation. I liked the story and all but it was just so ****ing unbelievable with all the stuff towards the end of the movie. I'm sure many of you that saw the movie would agree with me.

I thought this was really great, although it's also really messed up and depressing. It's all about a guy who gets falsely accused of pedophilia.

I almost closed The Hunt when I realized what it was going to be about. I didn't, though and it was a very well done film but I am not going to watch it again.

A surprising 84% on RT. I would have given it a low 50.

It is one of my favorite films, actually. I would say it is fairy tale-esque as is the Bruge.

It is also the film Colin Farrell finally managed to do a decent job acting. Gleeson is superb.

This week Cinestar Leipzig is showing Jurassic World in English (and 3D which I wish would die a sudden and violent death). Taking the fam. Looking forward to it.


Seriously though. Does anyone think that 3D makes a film better? Does anyone prefer to watch a movie in 3D? Given the choice I guess enough people do choose to see the 3D but I wonder how much of that is theaters just pushing it since it brings in so much more money, yet really doesn't cost a lot more to produce. Like the theater here showing movies in 3D. I asked the manager about that and he told me that they negotiate a selection of movies in English for their movie chain and it gets pushed on them as well, they have no choice in the matter at individual theaters once the movies are negotiated.

Yeah, 3D is complete garbage and personally don't think it adds anything to the movie going experience. Just my 1 cent...if that.

Some folks in this thread complained about the speed of the movie and that it was "boring." I'm sure if there were some more explosions or something, maybe that would have changed their collective opinions. I on the other hand really liked the movie. I loved the pace of the movie, I loved the way it was shot and I really, really liked the sound design. I didn't find it boring at all and it's slow moving narrative added to the mundane nature of training. I thought Carrell was great in it, as well as Tatum and this movie made me like Mark Ruffalo even more.

Anyway, I think it's a good watch.

88% on RT which seems about right.

(Man some of those establishing shots have really stuck with me.)

Technically, I thought it was a fantastic movie and just the idea of production issues puts me in awe of this movie. Whether it's the consistency of the camera work, the look of the movie or just the acting alone, it all made me think about the movie in more technical terms.

I really liked the story, I liked the characters and it made me reminisce of my own boyhood and where i've come from and the things I've done. In regards to the characters, I have no doubt that Ethan Hawke took inspiration for his character from a father figure in his own life, his stepfather:

I really, really liked this Moth episode. It's a quick listen and will give you an appreciation.

Ok so we went to Jurassic World. Aside from the 3D effect, which again **** all over the movie, I found it to be a fitting addition to the Jurassic library. I would rank it probably #1 among the Jurassic films (the first and original "Jurassic Park", while a true technical achievement for its time, simply had way too many plot holes and outright blunders for me), but as a stand-alone movie I would give it probably a C+ to B- rating overall (say 3 out of 5 starsA). I found it entertaining and fun and was able to lose myself in the chase. I think they went a little heavy-handed with the whole super-sized velociraptor thing, and the whole dinosaurs choosing sides, which to me was cheesy and silly, but for the most part it was fun to watch.

As far as the acting goes, I am a fan of Chris Pratt, but I think he has a natural comic streak that shows through in most scenes, almost as a permanent smirk although that is not exactly right either, but either way that makes him very likable, but also hard to take seriously in scenes meant to be serious. I thought he did an outstanding job in Guardians of the Galaxy balancing that out and making the danger seem believable, but here he was a tiny bit less successful, but I still preferred him over other actors we have seen in the lead role in these movies. Generally thought his performance was good, B+. The other characters/actors were just fine really. Nothing outstanding, nothing terrible.

Overall worth seeing in the theater. Sorry if I dropped any minor spoilers.

Yeah I also did a positive review in this thread right around the Oscars and thought it should have won. While it's not 'taut' as you would have put it, I thought it had a lot of 'heart'.
