What's The Last Movie You’ve Seen?

Took one of the nieces today to see Jurassic World at the local Cineplex. It was an 11:55am showing on a Monday, so me and Lily had most of the theatre to ourselves. She picked the movie as she had already seen Inside and Out...which is what I wanted to see.

First off the bat, Butchy is a myopic fool for complaining about the things he did.

Jurassic World was a fun movie to watch and the story however basic had me intrigued. Mr. Pratt was solid in it and if he continues doing what he does, the guy is going to have a very long career. As others have stated, he's a handsome devil, who can slim down to hunk status and he doesn't take himself too seriously.

Mrs. Howard was solid in it as were the kids.

Technically, I didn't like some of the editorial sound decisions they made but whatever. It was shot decently, though I still think the CGI in the 1st one blew the away the CGI in this one.

Anyway, the niece had fun, she wasn't scared or anything and I thought the movie was a 6/10 as I was leaving.

71% on RT. Seems about right.
 
While watching the trailers before JW started, I remembered that I had seen Whiplash a few months back and forgot to add it to this thread.

Pretty ****ing meh. I mean, don't get me wrong, I liked Vern Schillinger in it, as well as the kid, but the whole movie just felt disjointed to me. The story seemed rushed and I just never really felt invested in the characters. I just thought it was weird movie. Watch it if there's nothing else to watch.

94% on RT has me like

I'd have to disagree. The movie is one of the most memorable movie of the year so far for me. It definitely got its points across and don't tell me you don't feel that rush of exhilaration right at the end.... I don't think there was a movie that did that to me in a long long time...


Editing was FANTASTIC. Sound was fantastic. Script is good. Story is solid. Cinematography I can't fault. Acting is 80% there and I did feel invested in the main character. Everytime he was relegated to the backup drummer I was torn, I felt what he felt. I was right there with him the whole time, you've got to be like a robot to not be.


94% to me is about right. A bit better acting and deeper story would get 100% from me.

I guess my view of films is that there are many types of films and you have to appreciate each genre/types for what they are. Is it a deep study of the human conditions type film? No it is not. But for what it is I think you would be hard pressed to find a better more exhilarating film that gets the point across and left you wanting and wondering right at the end. And to me I think that's all the director would have wanted.


It's like a lovely piece of charcoal grilled steak. Is it seared scallops on a bed of pureed cauliflower? Nope and it doesn't pretend to be neither. But it is smokey and juicy and meaty and nothing beats it and I'd eat that over the scallops any day.
 
Chris Pratt has been the lead in two movies: Guardians and Jurrassic World, two of the most successful movies of all time.

He should be Indiana Jones and he will make bank. His price tag just went through the roof. Good for him.

Yeah I am a fan. I think he has a bright career ahead of him. Cannot wait for the next Guardians movie.

William S. Burroughs - A Man Within (2010)

Fantastic film. You will know Mr. Burroughs at the end. Definitely recommended if you're into his writings.

Another film to add to the coffer of LA movies. Shot both here in the city as well as the valley, I sat through much of the movie trying to pick out local spots...

Anyway, 100 Take Jake, as some in the biz like to call him, played the perfect sociopath. From that opening scene where the security guard shined the flashlight in his Lou's eyes, I got drawn deeper and deeper into his mania. His cadence when speaking, his matter of fact worldview, his ****ing eyes were perfect representations of a psycho.

There were a few suspension of disbelief moments that I didn't care for but overall I thought it was a good movie.

95% on RT seems a little high. I would have given it an 80% or so.

I agree, it's definitely worth checking out and on Netflix now. The trailer doesn't do it justice and also gives away too much of the storyline which drives me crazy. The film has a nice slow build in plot and Gyllenhaal's portrayal of a sociopath is pretty mesmerizing.
