What's new

What's The Last Movie You’ve Seen?

Sorry was after more space, robots, aliens type films.

You've listed some there I wouldn't mind seeing again. Snowpiercer, Sunshine, Donnie Darko - I still don't understand so need to see that one again. Cube haven't seen for ages, I remembered it being very good. Hated Interstella's ending.

You don't like Prometheous? I'm really looking forward to Alien Covenant that's coming out this week.

Mission to Mars had really good premise, it was getting good, then it suddenly ended. 'Moon' I thought was very well done on a low budget.

I actually don't like "ET" movies all that much. My favorite villain is plain old Norman Bates. I like the concept of cryptoterrestrials much better. There's an interesting book by this dude Mac Tonnies that I'd recommend it's cool and only like 100 pages called "the Cryptoterrestrials"

Have you seen the documentary - Dark Star: H.R. Giger's World ?? U should definitely check that out, that movie Aliens is based on his work. Or maybe u should wait til after the movie comes out because for me that type of thing ruins the immersion a lil bit.

Apparently there's an animated Ghost in the shell movie from the 90's have u seen that? i'd consider putting it on the list if I get a recommendation, just to contrast it to this new one.

Yeah it's one of the best in the genre.

You should check out the work of Gerald Brom. It would be awesome if a movie studio brought his work to life in the same way they did for Giger

It's long and tedious, but it does make you think about life and death and what is actually REAL? It makes me look at the world differently... questioning things I thought were true. Are they really real? What's real?

PS: I'd just realized that there aren't actually that many films in space (if you don't count Star Wars and Startrek, etc, ... I thought there would be more but not really.

Sweet. Added to the list!!

Well thats the sort of question where It's pretty much a given that Im gonna regret leaving something out, If you could specify sub-genre's that'd actually make it much easier for me. Here's my attempt at answering that just based on the genre tho. Cuz to me there's stuff that has sci-fi elements but might be clssified as soemthing else. U know the deal. Anyways.

Well Primer is #1, of course.
They Live. (I like John Carpenter films, The Thing is great/underrated as well, Escape from NY)
2001: A Space Odyssey. (A Clockwork Orange, Dr. Strangelove)
I love the Tom Cruise flick Edge of Tomorrow, I'm certain it's way underrated. Based on a novel called "all you need is kill" Which I plan on reading sometime soon. (I also love Vanilla Sky, I think thats really high quality sci-fi, best cameron diaz performance IMO.)
A Scanner Darkley

I really like Fire in the sky for an alien flick too. That movie stands out to me because I think it's sequenced perfectly. The Faculty is a good one too. K-Pax, Interstellar, Being John Malkovich, Children of men, Bladerunner, 12 Monkeys,Donnie Darko, Snowpiercer, Ghostbusters, Robocop, Groundhog Day, The prestige, Sunshine, Predators(I like this one conceptually), V for Vendetta, Pitch Black, MEtropolis, I'd say The wizard of Oz. I'm forgetting abunch for sure. I like Tron Legacy. The MArtian. Mars Attacks, I like Godzilla movies one of the newer ones was good had a crazy scene with him destroying the city with his breath. Reign of fire, The Time Machine, The Butterfly effect, Watchmen, Total Recall, Demolition Man, Judge Dredd, Contact.

I'd list the Matrix (and Terminator) but they stole the idea from Sophia Stewart.

I have a lot of other classics and truly old films that I'd list too. I like the invisible man for example. I'm not sure if Jordowski flicks fall into this category, The Holy Mountain. Zardoz is hysterical to me, I love that ****, these directors were definitely doing a lot of acid.

Fantastic Planet is one I'd highly recommend. It's animated but worth seeing for the artwork and music alone.

I'd also recommend the movie Cube...(don't see the sequel tho it's trash)

This list is terribly incomplete but I;ma stop. If u wanna pinpoint subgenres I can keep going.

I've seen a total of one anime series my entire life but I plan on watching some more when I get a chance. Deathnote is amazing. there's a movie in production now, surely that will be on this list. Thats more of a legendary/epic tale. it's more of a psychological thriller than an "anime" there's very little fighting action typa filler.

No love for Alien franchise?

No love for Alien franchise?

I'ma bigtime Danny McBride fan so I've got high hopes for this new one. They Live is my favorite alien movie for sure, it's definitely not my preferred sub-genre in Sci-fi. I'm not big into horror that relies on lighting and suspense and things popping up, it's all shock value ****. (I do jump tho), I prefer stuff thats slow-roasted and reliant on quality writing(not saying Alien isn't - I haven't seen it in a long time)

I prefer the art which inspired Alien. Check the documentary out I recommended on the last page from HR Giger.

In that doc he explains how the studio made him change the way the eggs look because it too closely resembled something sexual.

Moon (2009) would be up your alley too. I enjoyed it.

And you can't go wrong with Sam Rockwell
