What's The Last Movie You’ve Seen?

Birdman.

Have never been a fan of Inarritu. Amores Perros was OK for the shock factor. Babel was so so for me. I've always thought his movies have always been too fragmented and ultimately unconvincing - to me Birdman was no exception. There really wasn't much of a cohesive theme, I came away not really able to grasp anything of substance from it. The weird ending topped off a very average experience for me.

I know it just won best picture at the SAG awards, but I'd be surprised if it wins the Oscars.

It didn't win Best Picture. It's the SAG awards.

Nah didn't really like that. Not enough depth/back story for me.

Are you saying American Sniper is worse than those 2?

ZDT was too slow for me. Hurt Locker was the best. AS is intense but the more you learn about the real Chris Kyle the less you'll like the movie.

Yeah, also knowing what the ending is before the movie begins kinda ruins the surprise / ending as well. Forgettable.

I thought the final storming of his compound was EXTREMELY meh. I enjoyed it enough but I certainly was looking at my watch over and over during the final hour.

ZDT.

The different Al-Qaida names all sounded the same to me and I'd forget which terrorist they were talking about at times. I also found it was slow and fairly disinteresting. On the first viewing. When I watched it a second time more recently, I found it much more compelling and stronger overall.

The Theory of Everything.

Kinda like a less dramatic version of A Beautiful Mind? The main actor thoroughly deserved his nomination of the Oscars, it was very well done. Very well made and surprisingly had a lot of heart. Well put together and solid, exactly the kind of film that the Academy would like.

Just have no desire to see this for some reason.

I just watched The Interview. Everything you've heard about the movie, both good and bad, is simultaneously true.

It's a slow & steady meditation in human conditions so of course it's not gonna 'blow you' away.

You may think that the 12 year thing is a bit of a gimmick, but I thought about it and I think there is something that can be said about the consistency of following 1 actor for the duration of the 12 years. You are more invested in his development than a typical movie. You are intrigued by it.

Look, Linklater has always had superb with conception but been questionable in execution. This is no exception but it is much better than his previous offerings and I think the Academy is recognising that.

Did you see Bernie? I thought that Linklater film was truly excellent.
