What's wrong with Millsap?

Two season in a row, he starts it off looking like an All Star and carries the team to a great start, and then cools off or slows down for some reason. Well I hope you're right, and he turns it around quick.
Millsap had a few amazing games in October and early November last season. He's been solid for 20+ games this season. Millsap isn't a star, he's about as good a glue/role player as there is in the league. He also happens to be the Jazz's best player. The Jazz desperately need some help on the wing and in the back court.

Forgive me for jumping in here, but I think you might cheapen your analysis when you use the word "random".

I'm also convinced that Millsap's fluctuations cannot be explained by fatigue. So, they must be the cause of something else. If "random" is how you point to the multiplicity of other causes, then fine. But, it's worth considering a host of actual causes. What no one else even considers is that Millsap's fluctuations might have more to do with how the TEAM TEAM TEAM TEAM TEAM was performing; they immediately jump to some conclusion about his essence or some ****.

Like I said above, Millsap's fluctuations lately have a lot to do with our ineffectiveness from beyond the arc. Defenses are starting to key on that, and it ****ing sucks for our post players. Fatigue? No. (Although I would like to see him near 30mpg)
Fair enough. I was only using the word "random" to connote no obvious pattern that can be explained by "fatigue".

5 of 7 from the field , 8 of 8 from foul line, 10 rebounds, 4 assists . what's wrong with this guy?

The first 12 games of last season he went for 21.5 and 9.5, to then go for 14.5 and 6.5 the next 12 games in roughly the same minutes.

Just saying

And played very good team and man defense (against David West and Tyler Hansbrough). Obviously, he's not going to put up 18 and 10 on .500+ shooting every night, but he's easily been earning his pay checks this season.

You only have to watch the games to see he needs a little extra rest. It's not a knock on him. But he's already wearing down. We desperately need him to win and he clearly needs a little time to rejuvenate. Just sit the guy for a game from time to time.

I think what we are seeing are just a natural flux of a player dependent on his jump shot. Millsap is a pretty good PF without his jump shot, but when he is nailing his jumper he becomes a top 10 PF. Sometimes it just isn't falling, but he continues to try it and he just ends up having bad nights. On the other side, there are stretches when it seems like he could make shots blindfolded and he has huge games.

I like that this year he isn't letting these fluxes get in the way of his rebounding and defensive effort like it seemed to do last year.

Nothing surprising here. Millsap will always have a couple of stretches every season where he will put up big numbers and then he will fade away for other stretches. He is just 26, averaging just 31 mins and is not even the focal point of the post offense and yet we talk of him "wearing down". Being undersized in this league night in and night out probably does that to you. He will show up sometime though.
