Seriously, I wish nations would be more embracing of the variety of culture and languages that come from around the world.
When I went to England, I wasn't about to re-learn driving just so I could "fit in" to their arbitrary paradigm. The way they reacted you'd think I had run someone over.
Yeah, it's hard for us in North America to understand. It's just that Europe has generations of entrenched nationalism-- and having 2 world wars definitely doesn't help. Nationalism, and their perception of pride is simply different than ours (see sports riots, etc.), and centuries of establishing/fighting for their national identity has resulted in pretty much what we see today, with nations like France fearing that their culture will be dissolved if they don't control the expression of alternative cultures, like the muslim burka or something.
