What's new

What's your offseason dream for the Jazz?

1. See if Rudy and Donovan can mend fences.
2. Negotiate an extension for Rudy at slightly above max, but below supermax based on new cap projections.
3. Assume Conley opts in for another year, giving the Jazz a large expiring deal.
4. Re-sign Clarkson for 2 years @ $13M (similar to his current deal).
5. Find out through the grapevine if Giannis would consider Utah if things don't work out in Milwaukee.
6. Draft a guard or wing to groom to play next to Mitchell a year from now (when Conley leaves and Ingles will be 34); there are several good options in this draft.
7. Pick up Tony Bradley's option.
8. Plan to give Jarrell Brantley rotation minutes at the 4.
9. Sure, see if you can recruit Christian Wood. Jerami Grant is also likely to decline his player option this offseason.

Your first two are exactly the path I would take too. If Don and Rudy are good, you see what it takes to re-sign Rudy. If he demands much more than a regular max (I would say anything more than $30 per year), I look to trade him.

If the salary cap stays the same or goes down due to Covid, we can't be spending 30% of our cap space on Rudy. I like the guy and all, but his limitations and upcoming likely decline scare me at too big a number.

Wathever be there to fill our PF need and if possible, keep Clarkson. A better veteran backup center would be helpful too

When Conley opts in and we have a huge expiring in his contract what kind of return will we be able to get for him?

Realistically? A better player on a bad contract. Somebody like Blake Griffin or Kevin Love.

I personally hope Wood leaves Detroit and they can't sign anybody significant. For some reason, they think Conley helps right their terrible ship. Conley and 2nd rounders for Snell works. Detroit gets a much needed leader and we get some savings.

After looking at Christian Woods game log for the last 2 months of playing time, I’m sold. How much do you think it would cost to get him though??

Due to Covid 19, the NBA would have to create some sort of insurance waiver so every team could release 1 contract. For us, that would no doubt be Conley due to $35 million for next season. That would give us more money than the MLE which gives us a shot. Then we'd have to convince him to sign here.

Highly unlikely unfortunately

I find Rudy's decline in defensive effort and efficiency as this season wore on more than a little concerning. I just hope he and the staff figure this part out and fix it. Otherwise could bode very badly for us. He's not good enough in any other area to weather an extended slump in his primary skill-set, defense .
