What's new

When will the Trey Burke experiment end?

You can't afford to have slumps when you are as bad at D as Burke. Even if he had a great offensive night it wouldn't have mattered because of how much he gave up on the other end of the court. I don't want starters that are even steven on their good nights and a huge minus on their bad ones.
Kanter's O has been good lately but his defense has been bad. People want Kanter's head but Trey gets a pass even though he's been atrocious on both ends of the floor.

I know this is probably an extreme comparison as Trey is way more talented than any of our past PG scrubs, but what if we have a Mcleod/Pilacio vs. rookie Deron situation? We tried to bring Deron along slowly that rookie year with the fear of throwing him into the fire too quickly. Obviously by the end of the year he started to mesh with the other key parts of the roster and then the following year they were clicking on all cylinders with room to grow.

Again not a good comparison as Trey is better than either of those scrubs, but if Trey is just a placeholder like Mcleod/Pilacio why not give the new Deron (Exum) the reigns sooner than later? Also Deron was obviously a more prepared player coming into the league with his 3 years at Illinois. All speculation here and I don't feel we should even consider making a change this early, but I have it in the back of my mind.

I am worried about his body holding up so I am not sure we should play him 30 plus, but I think an even split is necessary with whomever is playing best finishing games.

1. Why does he struggle so much? Firstly he is a shoot first guy. Selfish. Someone pointed out in the game thread Trey left the game with a sulky expression while the young Jazz were celebrating their first road victory this season. You don't have to be the hero, Trey. Just be happy your team got the W. The Jazz are trying to play unselfish basketball this year and you need to adjust, make the extra pass, share the ball and so on. 2. He has a high b-ball IQ and killer instinct. I bet he'll learn eventually and be an active and consistent part of this team. Give him some more time. 3. Dante cannot start now. It'd a big risk to take. Wait until he gets stronger, has more experience.

...Trey's minutes have declined each game (38, 34, 32, 31, 23, 27).

Exum has seen the opposite. (10, 19, 18, 17, 25, 27, 21)

Exum has also had 5 assists the last 3 games, shot over 50% the last two, has only 3 TOs in November and rotates between ice cold and on fire from 3.

Very thrilled with Exum's progress. Same with Hood.

He'll probably go off tonight just cause of this thread.
Rod Stewart is singing about basketball when he says "spread your wings and let me come inside," right?
I mean we all are saying Trey needs to penetrate more.
