For those of us who live in the Salt Lake Valley (or surrounding areas), what's the better option; Evanston or Wendover?

Obviously if you're headed in either direction for some other reason might as well make the stop that's closer. But if I just want to go for the sole purpose of buying big boy beer in somewhat large quantities, are prices better in one place or the other?

Is there a particular store that is the best, has the best selection?

Notice, I've made no mention of transporting the beer after purchase. Let's just assume I plan on getting a room wherever I go and enjoying my purchase on the spot.

Whiskey straight out of the bottle if you're looking for big boy beer.
I'm not a teenager or enlisted in the Navy anymore. Getting smashed and throwing up no longer appeal to me. If you can believe it, Budweiser (for example) tastes far better at regular strength then at Utah 3.2 strength. It also provides a better buzz/urination quotient. Not that I'm too concerned about this angle, but it's better for the environment as well, due to my desire to consume fewer bottles worth per drinking session.

i say wendover, if imma drive that far imma gamble and get a few drinks! but i also like the liquor store and the beer store for high point beer

There really is no right answer. It just depends on what you want to do. I would also add Idaho to the list.

If you want to grab some fireworks while you're there, Wyoming is the place.
If you want to hit the casino and make a bet or 2, Wendover is obviously the place.
If you want to grab some lotto tickets while you're there, Idaho is the place.

They are all about the same driving time from the Salt Lake area (1.5 or 2 hours each way) so it just depends on what all you want to do.

Something to keep in mind though... Sometimes the cops watch the Wyoming border and will pull you over and search your car if they see you cross into Wyoming and then come back shortly after. They are mostly looking for fireworks though, so you should be fine if it's not around the 4th or 24th of July.

I don't care where you get it, just drink your fill, brothers! Life is all about indulging your wants and desires, so go ahead, enjoy it while you're young and fruitful!

Do you have any favorite stores when you hit the border? In Wendover, for instance, are the cheapest prices at the Smith's or the stand alone liquor store?

Better than any of these options is to visit The Beer Store or Epic Brewery. Both establishments sell cold high point beer. No Budweiser, though.

So, I've given up on this idea and started brewing my own.

Any other homebrews out there?

More importanly, any FORMER home brewers itching to dump their old glass carboys, bottles, bench capper and so fourth?

How come there's no "Not Utah" choice in the poll?

It is implied that Utah is not a good place to buy beer, otherwise I wouldn't have even the slightest urge to drive 2 hours to get some.

Word.

LA for the most part has has a resurgence in craft beer. Belgians, IPA's, Stouts, etc.

We have the best liquor laws in the country, I'll bet. And we have Trader Joe's.

On reflection, Iwouldn't be suprised if in Texas they let you take your gun in with you when you go to buy beer, then just drive off. That would make people say Texas is better, you betcha.

But I'll bet they don't have Trader Joe's, nossir.

Dangit, ain't's contagious....aaack

It reminds me of an old joke.

Utah beer is like making love in a canoe. It's %^&*ing close to water.

Close to where I lived in SD (El Cajon) was a little shack divided into two stores, Liquor in the front, pistols in the rear. So I think CA still has the edge. I liked being able to buy liquor on a good sale at Albertson's. They'd often mark a 1.75l bottle down $6. I tried a lot of different spirits just picking stuff up that was on sale.

That reminds me of another joke about beer in Utah.

Why do you always take two Mormons with you fishing? If you only take one he drinks all your beer.

Two mo

Colt 45

Throw in another two

Ole English

King Cobra

8 words to live by, I tellya!
