Which Free Agent veteran players will we go for?

I hope we sign Luol Deng. Former Dukie and awesome defender could teach former Dukie Rodney Hood how to do it.

Burke, Exum, Lucas III
Hayward, Burks, Clark
Deng, Hood, Evans
Favors, Kanter, Evans
Gobert, Tomic

I'm utterly dumbfounded by the amount of responses wanting to sign guys like Monroe, Bledsoe, and even my mancrush (Parsons). As much as I hate to admit it, but why sign my mancrush, if we plan to use Hood? These vet free agents are too good for our team. We have 7 core players, many of which we've had for over 3 years, and still don't know what the hell they are. Why? Because every bloody summer we go out and sign vets.

Stop taking away pt from these core guys. I truly want to find out what kanter and Favors can do. Is Burks a player or not? Start Hood from day 1. Gobert Report and Exum deserve 20+ mins next year.

I love Parsons and to a lesser extent, Monroe. But if we sign these guys then I fear we're really slowing down the development of Kanter and Hood.

Use this year as a tryout. Bring in dudes from all over. Have a tryout at ESA. Roll with our core 7 and a bunch of no names. Maybe we find another wes Matthews diamond. Maybe not? What's the worse? We suck and score the lottery again next year? Awww.

Had our weak organization fired Corbin like it should have and hired Hornacek, then we could have used all of last year to find out what the c5 was. Then we could make better FA signings because we'd have a better understanding of what our roster truly is.

Of course... With Hornacek I doubt we have as bad of a record so maybe we wouldn't have Exum right now...

Not a free agent, but part of me thinks taking Nash off the Lakers' hands to sit at the end of the bench and mentor (exum expressed a strong desire to latch onto a vet) is just too perfect an opportunity.

And it may end up nabbing us a 1st rounder

One other argument against a GSW-type deal:

I think we have a lot of good assets right now. It's time to start establishing winning habits -- especially because we have a new coach. Go get him a couple of players who can help him. I'm suddenly really into the idea of trading for Carroll. What would that cost? A couple second-round picks? Jeremy Evans and a second rounder?

Thankyou! The more we continue to try to accumulate assets the further behind we get in building a team and identity. These guys still don't really know how to win, I'd like them to not have to figure this during these young players prime years. Now is the time to build a winning mentality.

Also I'd like to see QS get off to a strong start in his coaching career. Like the players he needs to develop as well, if he starts losing big like the jazz did last year he'll question himself, and could lose the confidence of the players, and lose the locker room like Ty did. Losing isn't healthy. We have the talent in place, just need to add a couple strong vets in my opinion.

It's a real conundrum... I would much rather have GH come off the bench and sign a vet like Granger, but I don't want to take from th minutes of Hood and Burks. I still think GH is best served off the bench someday, but I don't think the Jazz longtime starter at the SF position is out there in free agency.

If Patrick Patterson is cheaper than Marvin, I would rather have Patterson. However, I think Marvin will be the main free agent signing and the rest of the cap space will be used to sign Hayward and for salary trades like last summer. Taking on the one year deals will give the Jazz picks and flexibility for extension with Burks and Kanter.

Parsons would be amazing though. Offering him $40m and GH $50m would both be great gets. It would mean that either Burks or Kanter are gone next year but this would be an awesome young team:

C - Favors
PF - Kanter?
SF - Parsons
SG - Hayward
PG - Burke
6th - Exum/ Burks
Bench: Hood, Gobert
Future bench: Tomic, Neto

Although, maybe the Jazz shock basketball and go after Lowry?
