Ya this kind of thinking is dumb because it is never ending. Hall of Fame level players will always be leaving and entering the NBA

Just build the best team you can.

Again, none of that is in the question. It's just a question about which segment of years will it be easier to win.

This thread is so going to be bumped when Wemby is dominating the league, so I just want to take this opportunity now to say hi to my future self.

Seems to be a lot of people avoiding the actual question because they are worried about what it might mean to their tanking dream.

Ya it’s a dumb question and strange someone as smart as you would ask it. The answer is obvious and you voted the wrong answer.
His answer is correct in a vacuum not even thinking about the jazz.

He is just asking if it's easier for a great team to win a title this season vs 5 seasons from now.

Probably this season.

Problem is that I think it's harder for the jazz to build a championship level team now vs later so I don't really care about the question as it relates to the jazz

Are you telling me the rookie who has alien length and athleticism who posted a 5.2 BPM his rookie year while his team had no talent around him might be good entering his prime?

Who are we talking about? The Celtics, Timberwolves, Mavs?

Because the Jazz will not compete for a title in the next three years. All they have is a good SF who never played in the playoffs and a tiny, defensively challenged SG, who also never made the playoffs. And a bunch of rough young players. That's it.
But we could add another good player who also has never done anything in the playoffs (Ingram).
That would certainly vault us past the Celtics, wolves, and Mavs right?

Ok, keep dodging the question and making up your own question if it makes you feel better.
I think it's easier to win a title now. But I do think you need a contending team to do so and we don't have that so I don't really care.

Our best chance to have a contending team is in like 4 years so the question doesn't matter to me because I'm a jazz fan.

Fixed.
At least that's why I was avoiding it anyway.

I have been told you can't tank when you have a really good player.
Maybe Lauri is just way better than wemby idk

Currently? They might be equals. Rookies almost never help your team win games though.

So if they are equals and we can't tank with Lauri then they also couldn't tank with wemby.

Imo though we can tank with Lauri just like they did with wemby. You just do what the jazz have done and what the spurs did. Make the supporting cast suck.

Now I just hope we don't **** it up. Let's follow through

The dynamics of the NBA make it a great unknown, even from one year to the next. After last year there were talking heads all over declaring the Nuggies a dynasty. IMO one of the worst thing a front office can do is use a crystal ball as a basis for deciding. You do it on your time frame, not the other teams.

Again, this is just a question. Just answer the question. No reason to think of it that deeply.

Are we seriously being asked to predict the NBA for the next SIX years? Because I am sure that 90% of basketball prognosticators would agree before the 2003-04 season that it would be a terrible season for any team but the Lakers to compete for a title. And especially so for a team with no big stars. And then the reality happened.

I would also remind that another young star, LeBron James, did not get his championship in the first 7 years in Cleveland.

It's just an internet thought exercise poll. Dont take it that seriously. Just answer the question to the best of your limited ability.

If the Jazz do end up contending again at some point, none of the rotation guys on the current roster will be starting for that team. Some may not be in the NBA.

But not for tremendous downside. He knows the future

Its obviously the next 3 years. I mean Mavs just got through West and thus are the bar for 2023-24.

Hard to imagine the bar isnt higher 3 years from now, when that 2nd stretch starts... with OKC, Minny and Spurs all being young and having a guy with special 2 way talent.

However that is not me saying we should go all in. Just an answer to the question.

Edit:
And not dismissing the chance that even Mavs are better then. Luka is just 25.

Prior to the season we had people on here excited about the prospect of the Mavs being so bad they would have to trade us Luka!
