Which Will Be Easier: Competing for a Title

I'm just asking a question. I'm not even asking anyone to think about it through the Utah Jazz, just in general.

I think the next 3 years will have more parity than the following. I think the next 3 rings are up for grabs. After that it *might* be Wemby's league.

If OKC is willing to spend money, then they are going to be tough for even Wemby to overthrow. They did what they did this year with Chet in year 1 and Jalen in year 2, crazy.

Thats fine. But anointing this guy as the next Hakeem is laughable. That’s essentially what Cy is doing. So much more goes into being elite at a sport than having the talent and skill. And so more goes into being elite as a team than one player…who isn’t even elite yet.

It's not that laughable and it's what a lot of people think. Many smart people think he's All-NBA next season.

I have been told you can't tank when you have a really good player.

You think it’s more likely a recent MVP (one of the greatest two-way players ever) and one the greatest shooters of all time become available for two premium future-facing assets, each? Lauri also isn’t quite as good as Paul Pierce (Pierce was super clutch).

It’s worth noting that strategy hasn’t worked since.

His only question mark is health. It’s a big question mark, but he’s the surest thing since Lebron and it’s not close.

That’s not the only question mark. We have no idea how much more he’ll develop. Or if studs will join him. Or if his play translates to serious wins. Or even if it does, of he has the mental makeup to win postseason games or if he’ll fold like Karl Malone. Or if Pops retires (it’s certainly possible the next 3-4 years), they’ll be able to replace him with someone so competent. Or even if he doesn’t retire, we no longer see a great Pops and instead get more of a sliver much like we did with Sloan the last couple years.

The moves we have made over the last 3 years have all been geared towards tanking though so I think we should just complete this step before moving to the next step.

Who are we talking about? The Celtics, Timberwolves, Mavs?

Because the Jazz will not compete for a title in the next three years. All they have is a good SF who never played in the playoffs and a tiny, defensively challenged SG, who also never made the playoffs. And a bunch of rough young players. That's it.

basically do you think its easier to compete against a loaded field, but no top end dynasty type team, or against Wemby, who could very well be a dynasty type team in the years I listed.

I think it's easier to compete when you have one of the best teams in the league.
I think our best chance to have one of the best teams in the league is not in the next 3 years.
