How is Dirk a C? Has he played C at all?

He's 7 feet tall. According to 82 games, he plays the center position, although not that much. However, he's just as effective at it. PF per is 25.9 and his C per is 25.8.

On a related note, I guess everyone's noticed that Greg Monroe, Ed Davis, Pattrick Patterson and Larry Sanders haven't shown much life at this point.

Patterson got D-Leagued. Wouldn't surprise if some of the others follow suit.

Dirk is a PF, not much of a back-to-the-basket game. But Duncan and Gasol have been centers really their whole careers.

Not at all. Duncan played with Robinson, he had Elson, Oberto, etc. Gasol has had Bynum when healthy. Both are centers in the sense that Jefferson is a center. They play there in the absence of a true center or when someone is hurt. All three are better at the PF position.
