If NAW is for real (and I don't mean he continues to shoot 56% from 3 but is 40% ish) then it creates an opportunity to move JC, Sexton, or Conley. I just move the one or two that have the most value. Mike doesn't seem to have a lot of suitors and I think the vet mentorship and just steady hand is such that I'm cool keeping him until he is expiring and seeing what trades pop up.

I think JC has the most value. I have wondered if his value would increase with an extension. He almost certainly would opt out of his deal right now but if you got him to opt in and added 2 years with 20% raises (that the most they could do) I think it might actually increase his value.

I love Collin but I'm not above trading him. I actually think NAW and Collin would work quite well. NAW being bigger and more defense/pass oriented... and he can spot up off of Sexton driving. I think NAW gets himself in trouble when trying to self create too much and I am still not a believer in his off the dribble shooting.

I also don't think the way Collin has been playing makes him a tough fit. They way he played in Cleveland makes him tough to fit, but he seems focused on fitting what Hardy needs and plays hard on defense. He's not super impactful on defense but he's not Trae Young either.

Sexton is a better defender than I thought he would be (sometimes I'm borderline impressed by his defense with way less moments of disgust than I anticipated), but overall he still present huge mismatch problems and just isnt as impactful as when we have the length of the THT/NAW's out there.

Right but I do believe you need a few guys that can beat their man off the dribble... especially when you don't have like a heliocentric offensive player. Collin has been doing that and scoring efficiently... and has started taking less YOLO shots and finding open shooters. I think you spread the floor for him and he's dangerous. I think in the playoffs he might get hunted more but you can live with a guy like that for 15-20 minutes even in a bad matchup (see Poole, Jordan) and not every playoff team will have the player that takes advantage of that mismatch. Against Luka its a nightmare... against like Ja you need rim help with anyone guarding him... so not as huge of a deal. IDK... it feels like a problem to worry about in 2-3 years and if he continues to make good reads it might be something you just live with.

Yeah I love these last few games from NAW but this definitely feels reactionary. I love his size at guard, he's defensive potential, etc but he is still only 10 games removed from DNPs. Especially for a guy on an expiring rookie deal, it will be interesting to see what it'll cost to continue the NAW experience.

My tiers currently would go:
Keepers that I'd be really sad to lose:
Lauri, Kessler

Pieces I'd like to keep unless a great deal:
Vanderbilt, Sexton, Beasley, NAW

Feel so incredibly meh about:
Agbaji, Dok, Bolmaro, THT

Don't fit our timeline and would flip for positive value at deadline:
Conley, Olynyk, Clarkson, Gay

This is a great list... but I want to add one footnote:
I would value Conley high above his face value, since he is spending a lot of time with our young guards helping them refine their game. I feel like that could be huge for Sexton and NAW development.

Clarkson would also be high value asset if it wasnt for his contract situation.

Lauri and Kessler are the keepers for me going forward. Then comes Vando for his hustle and potential, and Sexton, if he keeps developing his playmaking awareness. After that I need a bigger sample size for the other young players in our team. THT and Bolmaro just turned 22, Agbaji is 22, Dok just turned 23, and NAW is 24. Depending on their development, any one of them could be part of the Jazz roster going forward in the rebuilding. Dok, for example. We don’t know what the big fellow can do if he gets to play a lot of minutes, builds more muscle and stamina, and becomes a confident player. I wouldn’t like him gone before we know better. Simone could be a keeper, too, for a year or two, and I would like to keep Conley one more year. What to do with JC, Olynyk, and Beasley, depends where we are at the trade deadline.

Seems like the dude that most are in agreement should be getting shopped around is KO. Followed by Clarkson and Conley (and of course Gay)
I really like clarkson but Im good with losing any of those 4.

Probably next on my list would be Beasley but it would have to be a great offer. Then vando but same thing there. Sexton after that. Really just trade the old dudes and then we can see who the keepers really are.

Having said all that I like winning so much that it would suck if we traded the vets and then started losing like crazy. On the other hand call me crazy but if we trade clarkson, conley, KO, and Gay I feel pretty good about the dudes taking their spots and maybe we keep winning. Plus maybe we get some useful players back in the trades to help compensate for the losses.

Whatever happens this season, its ALL good.

Fully agree. I was talking to a friend who was acting like the jazz season is a disaster (44-38 would be purgatory yaddayaddayadda) and that if we aren't going to tank or be a 50+ win team then this season is a failure.

We got Lauri out of this season. He is playing like an elite shot finisher and All-Star caliber player. That's what you're hoping for from a top 5 pick. No matter what our record ends up this season was a success.

Sell off the vets for a bit of capital and a few more lottery balls, or stick it out and get the 6-8 seed and be spooky for a season, whatever. It's all good this season.

Look NAW has been awesome. I need like 10 more games before I can say anything definitive on him though. He's shooting 56% from three the last 5 games... I'm comfortable saying that is a fairly extreme outlier. If he is 38% plus by season's end it would be great. I'm not sure what to make of it but would be a super wild jump in production... we should give it 10-15 games before getting too excited.

The trades ainge made over the summer were simply home run trades. Makes this season so much less important. Win games, lose games, whatever. We have so much good going on going forward it just doesn't matter much. Sure has been fun watching us get wins though.

If you are asking him to create and playmake as a full-time PG then yeah I don't buy it. If you are asking him to bring the ball up and start the offense while Sexton and others drive and kick then he is fine. I sort of believe in him as a spot up shooter because his numbers from the corners have traditionally been solid. I like him as a defender... he has improved on that end. So even if he just brings the ball up and then becomes a three and D guy that can dribble into the next action if needed then he's useful.

His shooting will almost certainly come down. I do think he could be 40% ish on catch and shoot 3s and 30% ish on pullups... he is like 46/40 right now. He's been in the 35% territory before. His defense seems improved this year... so its less theoretical than it was last year imo.

We don't even know if Sexton can become a reasonble point guard option . There are plenty of score first point guards in the nba that have had success especially on rosters with high level forwards like the Finnisher. I think your obsession with thinking the young Bull has no playmaking ability is really pathetic. You and a few others on here always keep going back to how he isn't a point guard, and or small for a scoring guard. Its the same useless argument. The guy can ball, he has a high bb iq now, and tbh anyone not seeing that has a low bbiq.

NAW is fools gold everyone knows that. But he has been really decent lately and I would expect him to keep his job in Utah of riding the pine as a result for years to come until better players are hurt again. Like Sexton.
