Who Derrick Favors is? Just a reminder for people with short memory

I know... I just want a bigger sample size. I think the difference between Favors and who he is replacing plays a role in those numbers. i think we are better with Favs than Diaw/Lyles, but those guys are two of the worst in the league right now... on both ends. I don't think Favs is hurting Gobert.

What I am worried about is committing $20M to a guy who can't stay on the floor and does not fit amazingly. I'd like to see what the numbers say when it is a good player alongside Gobert, that is also a good fit, so Millsap vs. Favors instead of Diaw vs. Favors.

Would you rather pay Favors 20M(age 25-28) or Millsap 40M+(age 32-36)?

Favors... I am not convinced Paul gets that number though. I am also not sure Favs doesn't get 25+.

It does not have to be Millsap... I just think eventually we reconfigure... not sure if Lyles is that guy or we need someone else. I'd love to see what it looks like when we have someone that fit the Millsap mode in that spot. Could even be Wilson Chandler, Patrick Patterson, Aminu, Harkless... something like that. If we could be better with a big wing playing 4 that is also cheaper then it makes sense to trade Favors. Pick up extra assets as you do so. That is what I would like to see... not the favors versus the crapfest that Lyles and Diaw are giving us.

Unless we were bowled over it makes sense to wait until after Gordon re-signs to do anything.

One of our best 5-man lineups is Mack, Hayward, Ingles, Joe Jesus, and Gobert. Millsap type or a power wing who can shoot (hard to find I know) make us better than Favors I think. Get Favs back to full strength before full evaluation though.

Diaw is a better playmaker for others, but I'm getting kind of fed up with his pumpfakes on wide open 3s and then slow-driving in the lane. If he's not gonna shoot it, is he really spacing the floor?

this is literally word-for-word from the complaints over on the Spurs site. ....And then the Spurs won a championship.

I'm not saying Diaw is the same player; but this is either a career-long "problem" of his, or not a problem at all.

I mostly agree with this. But I also think that Favors best years are still ahead of him.

If he leaves, I hope we get a boatload for him... and that aint happening soon.

I like who Derrick Favors was and like who he is at face value. I hope he's able to recover physically. Some guys that size aren't able to come all the way back. (See Nene, Andrew Bogut and Joakim Noah.)

What do you think his next contract looks like? What's the opportunity cost of keeping him on that new contract?

I haven't forgotten how great Favor was...

A healthy Favors makes this Jazz team a historically dominant defensive team. He defends pick and roll as well as anyone I've ever seen for a big man. He can legitimately guard all 5 positions. Again, when healthy. I really want to see the "old" Favors back.

To answer your question, if there are less dudes in the paint then yes the floor is being spaced even if he doesn't shoot it. Or even if he misses it.

That's not how it works. You have to be an actual threat to shoot the ball, otherwise Favors could just as easily stand at the 3 point line as well. Diaw has been passing up wide open 3s to try and drive. He obviously doesn't want to shoot the 3, so anyone who thinks he spaces the floor better than Favors is just flat out wrong.

he'll get there, just gonna take some time to get conditioned and confident again. He'll take the team to yet another level.

I have seen more space on the court with favors on the bench.
I have also seen Gobert dominate the nba this season and play like a sure fire all star..... mostly while favors has been out.
His double double streak ended when favors was back playing again. Now his historical field goal percentage is taking a hit too. (See last game when he was below 50%)

Whatever though. When I watch the games Gobert seemed better offensively while favors was injured (the teams record wasn't too shabby either).

Stats may tell a different story but that's what I see when I watch the games.

And yes, favors could go out to the three point line too. He could, but he doesn't.
