What's new

Who do you like the most as a realistic pick between 6-8?

What if the Jazz don't love their options at 6-8 and trade the pick for like Trey Murphy or someone like that? I could see a deal for a youngish vet impact player if they don't love how the board shapes up.

We'll take Herb and two future unprotected first round picks. And the only reason we don't get 3 is because we didn't ask.

I think a trade is possible, and I don't hate the idea. Not because I don't think the prospects or good or that I think we need to rush into "win now" mode, but because there are very good prospects who might not fit with our established players. If we want to go with Kessler, for example, I think there may be a team who will trade up for JQ. I'm struggling to come up with a great target off the top of my head, but I think it will be a valued trade asset and we also have more picks to add in if we want to go big.

What got my juices going is the fact that I like guys in the 10-15 range about as much as the guys in the 6-8 range but all of that is really premature this early in the cycle. Some guys will continue to emerge, some will slip...

I could see someone targeting JQ or Kingston and making a big offer. By time we get to the draft I like fall in love with someone and won't want to do it. I think its an interesting thought for now.

I do think we are going to rush into "win now" mode though. I think they have been fighting not hitting the gas and as soon as this pick stuff is over they are going to want to punch it.

I know we’re not gonna tank…I just hope that doesn’t mean we try to make a big splash more the sake of making a move. Wasn’t encouraged by the PG+Mikal plan. Maybe we go for the 2-1, Herb and Murphy swoop lol.

I don't know that its a big splash but something along the lines of adding Herb or Trey maybe. I think they would see it as a failure to miss the playoffs next year.

I’m okay with that as a goal, but after all the stubbornness shown in order to tank I hope there’s some restraint in pursuing playoffs. I just hope we don’t make a bad move.

I think the good news is prices seem to have come down on some of these trades. Maybe not according to the Bane deal but still more reasonable.

Yeah….I'm kinda wondering how the value of a 5-8 pick may compare to a star. “Star” is ambiguous as it is, and especially when it comes to big money players. You already here some hesitation about Giannis from windy and co….what does that mean for a star a tier down?

I just realized that for several years the Jazz was absolutely obsessed with getting tall SFs that are good on defense. Besides Lauri, they got Agbaji, Fontecchio, Hendricks, Cody, THT, Toscano-Anderson, Ace... The amount of assets that they wasted in the pursuit of that coveted archetype was quite disproportionate compared to what they got.

But the Ainges are still doggedly searching for their new Tatum and Brown.

The Jazz like players with plus size/length who can shoot as a starting point. Hendricks is more of a 4. Williams is a 2/3. Some of these fringe guys like THT and JTA were throw-ins in a trade. Fontecchio was a free agent that didn't cost anything to sign. Most teams want athletic and versatile wings. That isn't unique to the Jazz.
