Who has the biggest upside?

Of our current lineup, who is going to change our minds about their play the most?

To me it will be Trey Lyles. Last year I would have said Rodney or Dante, but if he gets more playing time I think Lyles will become a special player. He won't turn 21 until November.

I posted this in another thread but this is a pretty cool piece on him. If it used highlights from January it would be more powerful.

Crazy to think he could change our minds about his play the most since he's already very good. I actually think he underperforms for the talent he has so you might be right. If he got in Karl Malone-type shape maybe he could become that flawless player.

I've been following this board for around 15 years now. I used to play the forecasting game but I almost never post.

I really think Favors is close to his peak. He has become a good (although not great) shooter but he has no go-to moves inside. His hands, on offense, are not bad but also not that great (unlike Malone's, which were great). He is physically capable but obviously is not near the level of a Blake Griffin or a young Dwight Howard and he doesn't seem capable of driving to basket with competence when facing it. As a passer he seems mediocre/average. Gobert, by comparison, already seems a better passer from the high post. Favors already has problems with his back (which seem to somewhat affect his shooting some nights). This is his 6th year and still he is only an average free throw shooter. Let's face it: he is what he is, a good (although somewhat limited) offensive player which happens to be a very good defender overall (although not necessarily a elite one-on-one defender). I think he will, if no serious injury happens to him, plays close to the all-star level for about five more years. He still may improve a little bit, perhaps averaging close to 20 points per game, but I think he shows no sign of ever becoming a dominant force whatsoever. I root for the Jazz, but I think fans can be overoptimistic sometimes.

No kidding. The lack of respect he gets from the refs is nauseating. I know Snyder has yelled at the refs about it before, but I'd love to see him get on tech (or even get tossed) on a really bad no call by going after the refs.

Offensively Favors is as good as Howard ever got, despite not having the entire offense ran through him like Howard did.

He drives great when he does it, he's as good if not better at passing than Gobert as he can pass from more than just the high post and Gobert only passes from the high post, I think he's already a very good and diverse offensive player who can attack with a dribble, play with his back to the basket, attack out of a PNR and shoot out to about 18 feet. If the Jazz ran their offense through him I believe he could easily be a 20/10 player. They don't they run it through their wings. He's also a borderline great defender who can guard anybody on the court, even a PG when he gets switched out to them. His man on defense is just fine, though in the NBA man on defense is virtually impossible in the current environment.

The only reason he is not at the top of this list for me as the one who could surprise is that he is the best player on the team already and I'm not sure he has all that much improvement left. He doesn't really need to improve all that much as it is, he's already a damn good player. I'd say Exum is the top of this list because he's such an unknown.

Yes he does. Though it's still developing think we will see it more next year

I looked and could find hardly any face up drives. I think he'll continue to improve a little but not much. Again though, he has not become a go-to player in crunch-time situations. He reminds me of Karl Malone a lot at times, minus the ability to be a consistent force in pressure situations.

They don't use him that way. They run the offense through the wings so they are the ones being asked to be that way.
