Who is Excited About Trey?

And one thing you might notice is that when he's not shooting well, he shoots more and takes worse shots. That is a mental issue.

This is very true, but I've wondered if it has been encouraged by the coaches. That second unit has needed offense in a very bad way.

I actually like Trey and get really excited in those few games that he plays well. I really like his energy, but I totally hate his judgment. I like that he is fearless, but I hate that he thinks he's a lot better than he actually is.

That being said, I think most of his problems are in the mental game. He is always looking for his own shot. His tunnel vision has got to go if he is going to be part of this team going forward (or any other team for that matter). He simply isn't good enough to play as if he were Chris Paul. But if he learns to find the open man and only take his shot when it really is the best option on the floor, I think he could be really good for the team.

I'm not saying he's figured it all out. I agree that he still has a lot of bad habits and work to be done to be considered a good player. I was talking about his driving game. Do you think it is getting better, or is it just fools gold because of the poor defenses of OKC and MIN?

Trey has a long way to go, but if he could become an adequate driver that would be huge development. It'd make me believe he could start going down the checklist of his other issues. My next goal for him would be to dribble half as much and pass the ball up the court to get into the offense sooner.

I would say he has gained some "shiftiness". It has got him to the line a few more times this year and some more layups recently. He can operate in close quarters while rarely turning the ball over, and that is a strong trait people don't give him credit for. If he fixes his shot, I have no problem with him.

If Burke continues to improve his weaknesses it could be interesting. Last season we were critical of the fact he couldn't dribble toward the basket and finish. And although he's not great at it he's improved a lot. He has the potential to be a good scorer - but he also needs to make his teammates better as well as play better defense.

As mentioned many times prior by me and others, Burke fools us all the time: we think he's turned the corner and then he plays like crap - then he plays well and is responsible for a win. He's like the J.R. Smith of point guards.

I think Burke has a higher ceiling than we saw last season - he just needs to be consistent and improve.

Any player taking more than a dozen shots a game will always have the potential to be a good scorer. The problem with Trey is that he simply can't stop shooting when his shots aren't dropping. I'm beginning to think that he needs a psychiatrist more than a coach.

Good point. I should have used a word like 'reliable' or 'efficient' instead of 'good'.

He has shown improvement, especially going to the basket, but still doesn't pass enough. And one thing you might notice is that when he's not shooting well, he shoots more and takes worse shots. That is a mental issue.
One play typified Burke last night. He had the ball for the ENTIRE shot clock. And it wasn't at the end of a quarter. He brought the ball across midcourt and simply kept dribbling while others were setting screens and making cuts. Never looked ONCE to pass the ball. And, of course, he was forced to launch up a bad shot as the clock was running out.

One of my funniest moments coaching 8-yr olds was having to yell "PASS THE BALL" once as one of my girls got that "deer in the headlights" look and just kept dribbling from side to side outside the 3 pt. line. But we're talking about some one with 2 years of college and almost 2 years of NBA experience. Not ONE player will be sad to see Trey go. I'm sure they get tired of trying to run the offense when they know that 75% of the time they won't be getting the ball.

I think we'll see another good driving game from Trey tonight. Denver is rejuvenated, but they still aren't a great team. Even if his improved driving is just the product of lesser competition, the boost to his confidence will be real. If he is always going to be a player who has a lot of FGA's, I'd prefer them to be efficient ones that help the team. If Trey, and all his physical limitations, can succeed at penetrating, it should be inspiration for Dante to attempt it with more ferocity.

5 for 12 against denver. 12 shots, 12 points. 4 asst 5 boards, 1 TO. All in all a decent game.

He is much better when he drives more when he wants to score. Seemed last night like he was trying to dish more or drive and pass. I hope he keeps it up, because it helps us win so much more than when he takes a bunch of jump shots.
