Who is Excited About Trey?

I hope that he continues to improve. When he is on, he is very impressive. Like everyone has pointed out, the nights that he is "on" are pretty rare compared to the nights that he looks like CJ Miles 2.0.
He COULD become really good, which I hope he does. Hell it took Hayward 4 years to really break out. Not to mention most players don't reach their prime until they are 25-28 years old. It would be easier to be patient with a guy like Burke, if we didn't have to depend on him to be our primary point guard when he is only in his second year.
 
The thing I like the most about Trey is that he is taking it to the hole effectively this year. He has developed a little floater/push shot/"5 foot layup".
He didn't always have that in his arsenal. Not to the degree of effectiveness as he has displayed this year.
The reason I like this and it excites me is because that tells me that maybe their is hope for Dante.
 
I like that trey is very dedicated. He's been going to practice early and being the first one there to try and improve.
 
He's had 2 good games in a row shooting 40 %, scoring 41 points on 40 shots.

The one thing he does well is not turn the ball over cause its hard to turn it over when you just shoot instead of pass

I refuse to get fooled anymore... Everytime I feel like he's getting better he follows the good stretch by several horrendous games.

I like what I'm seeing lately and have hopes for him. He's playing smarter lately and his good ball handles will allow him to get better and start making better decisions, especially when he recognizes where he can improve. He's a hard working kid that wants to get better and he's still got a ways to go. As long as I still see signs of improvement I'm not too worried about a player in his 2nd year having a stretch of bad games like he's had.
 
I did a basic stat check and since the All Star break Trey has had 9 games shooting under 40%, 12 games shooting above 40% including 5 games shooting 50% or better. In that span according to +/- he has had 12 games as a possitive, 7 games as a negative and 2 games as neutral.

Not exactly great consistency, but my guess is that these numbers are improved as compared to the start of the season.

But of those games under 40 %, only 1 is better than 25 %. When he's bad, he's bad. When he's good, he's just OK. I want to see what he can do next year with Burks back and another year, but if he doesn't improve, get rid of him by All-star break.
 
I'm not saying he's figured it all out. I agree that he still has a lot of bad habits and work to be done to be considered a good player. I was talking about his driving game. Do you think it is getting better, or is it just fools gold because of the poor defenses of OKC and MIN?

Trey has a long way to go, but if he could become an adequate driver that would be huge development. It'd make me believe he could start going down the checklist of his other issues. My next goal for him would be to dribble half as much and pass the ball up the court to get into the offense sooner.
 
If he took more shots from the corner 3 instead of above the break, his 3 point percentages would look better. He is shooting better than %40 on corner 3s but he has attempted around 70 whereas he attempted around 300 and shot worse than %30 above the break.

If Dante had better handles and some guts to drive I think you could camp Trey in the corner but Trey is our second best ball-handler. His corner 3 attempts number seems to be around average. I wonder if Snyder can up those attempts next year. We can place Hood and Burks who are better shooters at above the break.
 
He has shown improvement, especially going to the basket, but still doesn't pass enough. And one thing you might notice is that when he's not shooting well, he shoots more and takes worse shots. That is a mental issue.
 
I'd be fine with him as a backup for 15 minutes a game. As long as he he's playing a significant role like he is now, Utah is limited in how far they can go. I still think there's a good chance he gets moved in the offseason.
