Who is the Best Guard or Wing We can Get for Walker Kessler?

Kessler is a 2nd year player in a slump which normally is no biggie, but this questions is valid becouse of his archtype which doesnt really fit modern basketball. I'm still hoping he develops a jumpshot or some passing. A center needs to be a shooter or a playmaker/hub to really be effective these days.

The most concerning thing is I'm not sensing that Kessler is willing to do either. He seems like a guy who soaks on mistakes, and thats not a good thing for shooter/passer since you are gonna miss and turn it over every now and then and getting over those mistakes becomes a part of what makes you good or bad.

At one point Hardy just must somehow push that stuff to his plate. Otherwise he will stay in the same developmental limbo as Evan Mobley has been for a while now.

Trusting the guy to develop as a shooter when he can't even shoot FT's straight, much less make them, is such a wild thing to bet on.

Trading a guy that came in a very close third last year in ROY is dumber than foooudge! Led the league in blocked shots per minute last season (and prolly so far this as well).

If we want a shot this season we need to trade Sexton and Clarkson for a bonafide bucket getter like Levine. We need a REAL second scoring option in the worst way. A guy that can create without taking the air out of the ball. A guy with a decent field goal %.

MCW won ROY once.....

There's a number of players who had great rookie seasons who never amounted to much of anything.

I think Paschall was first team rookie and is now out of the NBA.
 
My main thought right now is OG Anunoby.

Slide him into the 3/4 and let Lauri/JC start next to him. OG isnt the most dynamic player, but he's an excellent defender.

I'm not betting on anything. Quite the opposite, I want to see stuff put to his plate before making any final calls.

You are the one doing all the bets here by suggesting that we cut bait on a 22 year old guy who was 3rd in ROTY voting.

I mean, sell at high value.

I dont think they have to trade him, but I do think if they go into next year wanting to the best team possible, it will probably be with him off the bench.

I get that. I just think its a bit premature to ship him out. But if we suck the second most important thing to evaluate (after Keyonte as a lead guard) is probably if Walker can develop his offensive bag in any ways.
 
Like really just sit down and be honset with yourselves about who Walker is and isnt:

  • He has shown 0 ability to defend on the perimeter
  • He isnt an elite above the rim athlete who create lob attempts at a high rate
  • He has confidence issues at the FT line
  • His shot is very mechanical and busy.
  • He can't dribble
  • He can't pass
  • He has no post moves
  • He's a great shot blocker with impeccable timing, but no one actually fears him
  • The NBA is getting harder and harder every year as more and more players become higher skilled and better shooters.

Overall I would prefer to keep him because he can be a great bench piece, or short minutes starter, but I'm sure some people around the league still really believe in his DPOY kind of upside.

I fully agree with this and don't want to start an argument but didn't you say the other day we don't have to maximize every asset. Just build the team with good players?

I agree if we can get better by trading Kessler we should do it. Again not trying to start an argument with you but this was kinda my point as well especially with other front court players on the team that aren't playmakers

I guess the only main differences between our opinions is your ok with Kessler off the bench. If that's the case I'd prefer to sell at high value but I do agree Kessler would be a nice bench piece if that's the route the team chooses to go long term

You don’t trade him now unless you get a too good to pass up type offer. If you draft Sarr or find a better center by all means make a move… until then just chill.

It’s so clear that a guy like Walker would be most affected by our two biggest issues with lack of passing and spacing. He is the player most susceptible to a fall off when getting John Collins and running with our pg mess.
