Im pretty pissed that we don't get Flagg.
But like Ace, Tre, and VJ (in that order) and will be happy with any of those 3.
 
VJ looks a lot like Westbrook to me without the attitude. High flying athlete who when he gets to the rim it's over everyone. I am not convinced he will be a great shooter. I am not convinced he will be able to get to the rim as easily as Westbrook could. But his first step is explosive.

If he defends more than Westbrook but has a similar ability to get in the lane, I think we would all be happy with that.
 
I agree that there is something a bit lacking from VJ's athleticism. He is as good of a run/jump athlete as there is.....but he's not exactly shifty on the ground and doesn't display the greatest body control around the rim. Not sure how much can be developed skill wise and how much is just god given ability. His handle is definitely lacking and that holds him back from getting to the paint, but I wonder if there's a cap on how good he can get if he's just not as agile as the elite guys like Mitchell.

Rebs/Stls/Blks/Dunks indicators looking fantastic though.

All the ancillary stuff looks great, top notch with offensive rebounds and defensive playmaking, stuff that wins the team more possessions. Just a guy who makes winning plays but also has the potential for alot more.

I have also heard that he has a crazy work ethic. If we pair him up with a workaholic like sexton, we might see some massive growth.

to be clear, nobody thought he was 6'10" barefoot. his standing reach of 8'11" is elite - like off the charts for a SG/wing. people think his measurements underwhelmed, but when you take everything into account, in shoes measurement, and length measurements (wingspan/standing reach), he killed it. the idea that he's slipping is just people spitballing.

Totally right on the size. He's not Kevin Durant size, but those who thought he was were setting up unrealistic expectations about him.

As for "slipping": don't know if it's coincidence or causal, but this board seems more in line with Tony Jones than many other folks are. As TJ wonders if Tre Johnson will even be there at 5 for the Jazz, so do we. As TJ finds it most likely that among Johnson, VJ, and Ace, Ace is the one that gets to us, so we too are talking about him slipping. As TJ has been telling Jazz fans that there are five players with star potential, we seem to be settling into the idea that 3-5 in this draft are fairly comparable.

Now it may be that there's not a direct line between what we're thinking and what Tony's thinking (maybe there's others out there with the same thoughts), but it's interesting.

Take Collin Sexton, make him 3 inches taller, keep the wingspan the same, make him a better one-foot jumper--I think this is what VJ is going to look like early in his career. He's a super high-energy, athletic combo guard who can make shots with his feet set. That's still a very valuable player, and he can get you 18/4/3 probably, but he's probably your third guy rather than your 1A or 1B. Defensively, he should have an impact.
