I dont think Cody is a shooter at all at this point in his development at least. His College shooting% came on a very low volume and according to a lot of Colorado fans he didnt take any jumpers if someone was even close to contesting them... so he was really sugarcoating his percentages.
Going deeper into his earlier stats he shot 25% or worse from 3 in FIBA (U19), EYBL and Adidas games, which kinda matches more to what we have seen from him. That is also much larger volume sample (around 100 combined attempts) vs his College volume (41 attempts).
The shot doesnt look ugly though, and he did say before the draft that he is working hard on it... so maybe its one of those cases where he decided to learn proper technique late and he isnt comfortable with it yet.

I would say the shot looks ugly
I haven't done any video comparison, but it feels like his shot was super slow, but looked pretty good and now it is sped up a little and looks off.
He's going to need a lot of work to get a consistent, quick enough release, and good looking shot.
I will admit that I havent really gone back to see the tape to properly analyze it... so my analysis is kinda "gut and feel" type from just watching our games.

What? Cody does not look lost and out of place, other than a couple miscues with the 24 sec clock. He cuts well, spaces well, closes on shooters, and manages screens well.
He has the Dante thing where his shot just doesnt really lend itself to shooting off the dribble. He has to be completely set, and even then, he's flinging it up. Really think he needs to rework it to a fairly significant degree.

his best quality is his control and soft touch on layups. he's really good at layups. besides the one he air balled the other night.
Yeah, it's what gives me hope for his potential. Because if his shot comes along to where he can make these wide open looks and some natural body development, he can be a pretty nice player.
He doesnt look "lost" but if he gets the ball without any kind of advantage he's pretty useless. How many time does he get it with like 10-12 seconds on the shot clock to do nothing and pass the ball to Keyonte/Sexton/Clarkson/Lauri with 5 seconds left and the defense completely set?
It's disappointing that he didn't come in to the league with a jumper that was more ready, but I also have some confidence he will figure it out. Him being able to get to the rim and finish in traffic is pretty conceivable once the natural body development happens (like you said). Since neither of those things are likely to happen this season we are going to have to be very patient and keep that perspective in mind, i.e. imagine what type of player he can become assuming those two things come around.

Uh well that's not what I was responding to. I was responding to someone saying he looks lost and out of place.
And responding to your point, he made multiple drives into the lane this game that ended up as either buckets for him or other Jazz players. He's definitely playing passively, but I don't see someone who is "useless" with the ball in their hands.
