Yes it's a big hypothetical, but all things being equal in terms of receiving good assets in return who would you get rid of?

I’d trade Rudy.

My heart is more attached to Rudy, but my head evaluates the flaws in his offense, his yuge contract, the diminished value of one-sided centers come playoff time, the lack of picks the Jazz have going forward, Gobert’s trade value likely diminishing if the FO waits too long… plus, even though Dok may have been a mistake, I’m not ready to call him a bust. Between Dok and FA - maybe Whiteside again - I think it’s probably smart to trade Rudy now and audition some pieces at center.

I’m inclined to trade Mitchell as well, but I don’t think his value will diminish too much if the FO wants to wait a year to patiently get the best package for him. (or just pounce and trade him now - maybe snag Sac’s #4 pick Ivey or Sharpe + future picks). Shrug.

Jazz’ window with this current roster is closed. Hopefully Ainge can refresh the Jazz’ future after this iteration turned to ****.

I really think the jazz could get the Sac pick with Gobert. Maybe I over value him but they would be creating a big 3 of Fox Sabonis and Gobert. They are in win now mode and as everyone knows from utah and Exum even a #4 pick is not guaranteed gold. They know what they are getting with Gobert and I think he would fit in great with Fox and Sabonis.

The case for trading DM now:

  • Average 3pt%
  • Below average (slightly) FG%
  • Below average finisher at the rim
  • Relies almost exclusively on his exceptional athleticism, which isn’t going to progress.
  • One serious injury away from putting the team in a deep hole.
  • Absolutely pathetic and laughable defense with no indication of improving.
  • Below average BBIQ (hero ball, 8 seconds, the trainer thing)
  • Not a leader in the least. Appears to have, to me at least, the emotional intelligence of a 15 YO, not an almost 26 YO.
  • Appears to have some undeserved power over the front office.
  • His girlfriend is reportedly a bitch
  • Maybe Lopoo will go away.

Add all this up and the only thing you have is a volume scorer due to his exceptional athleticism and ability to create his own shots, but not efficiently. He has maxed out his potential.

Go get that big haul of assets before he 1) gets hurt, 2) pouts, quits on the team and lets the trade talk be a major distraction 3) the league catches on to the fakeness behind his beautiful effervescent smile, and/or 4) his exceptional athleticism begins to diminish.

More on this, please

I think people who would be in a relationship with someone who treats people around them poorly says a lot about who they are.

Mitchell is a successful basketball player and I don't imagine it's hard for him to meet women. With his polished PR persona, if he is with someone who treats other people like "less thans" then I can only imagine that in private he supports that behavior.

As reported on Twitter by the Vivint Arena employee (I assume former by now) a month or so ago. There is a thread on this someplace.
Yeah I saw some of those tweets before they started getting deleted. I wish I could have read them all. There was some juicy bits.

That person seemed to be tweeting under their real name. LOL, hopefully they already had a foot out the door.

Donovan Mitchell is by far our best player for the playoffs. Rudy gets rendered above average in the playoffs. I mean, Kleber is still wide open. Rudy excuses stop here. He gotta go.

Build around budding superstar Donovan, and you will see a fun, happy squad playing modern day basketball. It is clear when NBA players play for each other. Our system is built around Rudy and guys don't play for Rudy. It's so obvious.

This is the ultimate "it depends" question. The right answer is they put both of them on the trade block and whichever gets the best assets, that one gets traded. If you get surprised and you get a killer deal for both, you trade both.

Donovan wasn't the best this year. Clarkson was. And it wasn't even close. Clarkson's shooting % are on par with DM over their careers. DM is not budding. He has maxed out. Probably will be at this level for a few more years then start to decline. Undersized volume shooters that play no defense, lack leadership and have low BBIQ don't age well in the NBA.
