I think if there is a guy it would have to be a clear upgrade over those guys. I think Oni might take Niangs minutes by end of year. Niang has defended much better this year but Oni could be an upgrade there and if Niangs shot doesn’t come around then there isn’t much benefit of playing him over Oni.Trevor Ariza?
But do the Jazz really want 2021 trevor ariza?
Niang has been pretty solid this year. Morgan looks like he's good too.
I'm not sure who the top tier buyout guy is this year, but I'm assuming he is going to go to Brooklyn since there are a lot of minutes in Brooklyn, Utah is still going to get a 2nd rate guy from that group, and I'm not sure that dude is better than Niang/Morgan/Oni.
If we're saying we'd trade Niang to upgrade him, I don't think we'd do that because you couldn't get a good enough return for them to want to disrupt lockerroom stuff. But other than that, I don't know what we could even trade for a return that would be a upgrade over Niang since we don't have any assets we can attach to deals, unless we thought Eliza or Udoka had value.I'm more interested in if the Jazz being this good makes them want to make a trade to upgrade Niang. I dont think we can upgrade in the buyout market. That's for teams with bad depth who are cash strapped. Jazz depth is fine.
Gay Favors off the bench would strike terror into other teams.I think if there is a guy it would have to be a clear upgrade over those guys. I think Oni might take Niangs minutes by end of year. If we had an injury to Favs and a bog got bought out I could see us being in play.
If San Antonio fell out of the playoffs early and Rudy Gay gets bought out I’d be in. I’m totally in on Gay!
We don't really even have the cap fodder to make a trade. Say San Antonio was willing to trade Gay for expirings and a second... we don't have expirings. If we're saying we'd trade Niang to upgrade him, I don't think we'd do that because you couldn't get a good enough return for them to want to disrupt lockerroom stuff. Give me all the Gay Favors please!Gay Favors off the bench would strike terror into other teams.
I think Oni or Morgan could be an upgrade over Niang... Niang has played well but he needs to start hitting his shots. He's been mostly good on defense... and not just good for him... like genuinely good.
I don't think it happens at all. I was hoping to conjure up good vibes in the universe.I know @infection wants me to say OP Jr. I just don't see that happening. Chicago would have to fall out of the play in and he'd have to make a stink about not being there... and likely take some money off the table.
I'm sorry.
I think he's a happily married man.Gay is interesting. Can Conley sway that?
He’s a higher upside project and looking down the road he’s the guy that we need in the playoffs. Niang may be better currently but we need to look ahead and get Oni ready. If Niang was shooting 40% from three it makes sense to stick with him... currently he’s 29%.Niang has been good on defense, but Oni has "next level" defender potential. And he can guard 4 positions so anyone gets hurt other than Gobert or Favors and it looks like he's the replacement.
He's developing a bit of an attitude too - he had "come at me bro" written all over him last night when he was on Tatum or Brown.
He's got real PF size and is a guy we could use against Lebron and Kawhi. I worry the ball still sticks a little with him but he would be playing in the second unit where Jordan mostly just does his thing.Damn. HH now has me thinking I could be a big Gay guy. I never cared for Gay in his Memphis days because I saw him as empty calories, and even recently maybe more warm on him as our backup four, but if he’s sliding in to 18 mpg taking over Niang’s spot and giving more rest flexibility? Damn. His per 36 numbers are lit. He’s really stepped up the rebounding.
This. If Niang is hitting on 40% of his 3's then that gives us something, but he brings almost nothing else, even his current improved D notwithstanding. His D hasn't improved enough to be a difference maker on the floor, so if we can upgrade we should. Hopefully Oni can be more consistent and perhaps provide us with the true straight-up 3&D we need in that 9th spot. He’s a higher upside project and looking down the road he’s the guy that we need in the playoffs.
