Why do we play so slow?

I for one think that using our youth, athleticism, and altitude to our advantage is a great idea.

I'm flabbergasted that the jazz don't run like crazy.... Especially considering the fact that our half court offense is a mess due to the opponent not needing to guard rudy at all and not having to worry about us killing them from three.

I definitely think we should try to get shots off quicker, especially in transition......
though the downside would be that if we increase the pace then we wouldn't get to pass rudy the ball at the three point line and watch him look for a guy to pass to and then not be able to find anyone so Hayward, hood, neto, etc have to come to rudy for the handoff and then swing the ball around the outside until the shot clock is down to 5 seconds and then actually look for a scoring opportunity.

Wait, is that actually a downside?

Downside is we tire out our starters, who already have to shoulder a huge burden of the game since our bench blows. By playing fast it also allows the other team to play faster, which means they will have to go against our half-court defense less.

It baffles me that we don't play a more up tempo play with the athleticism we have on this team. We run off analytics and all of this special ****, yet we play like we are stuck in the 80s some nights. It's cool we have a good defense, but when you're dropping games to teams like the Nets, at home, then something has to be tweaked.

As things stand now, Rudy is having trouble getting up and down the court, if you haven't noticed. Maybe it's because of his knee, not sure, but that certainly is a reason to slow us down.

Do our starters play allot more minutes than the starters of other teams?

I don't know that they are playing more but I think one could argue that they should if we're trying to win more games. The drop-off from the starters to the bench is basically a cliff. I honestly think adding real bench depth might be as important for improving this team as anything else (becoming similar to a Boston or Toronto maybe). But that's just my own feeling and is probably influenced by listening to Locke trying to convince everyone of that recently.

Well that's true but don't other teams have slow guys?
I mean youngest team, high altitude, inept half court offense = slowest pace in the entire league?

Doesn't make sense to me

I mean zach randolph, marc gasol, tony allen are able to run the floor faster than the jazz because rudy?

I don't think so

I know we want Rudy to be a juggernaut two way force, but he just isn't. Gasol is though and they can play to that mismatch. If we are to build a team around Rudy, it's because of his defense. And if you build a team based on his defense, you don't run him out of gas getting down the floor for a bucket.

I wonder if play slow on offense so it'll help our defense? In the finals last year the Cavs played at a much slower pace and it seemed to help their defense for a little bit....that could explain why we play so slow.

But our half court offense is sometimes painful to watch, and we are nowhere near the defense we were last year

Different lineups have different strengths for sure. Exum-burks-hood-hayward-favors could run teams off the floor. Until those guys are back I don't see pace increasing anytime soon
