I was curious after reading the beers for bras thread or whatever. For those of you who imbibe, why do you do it? For those that do not, why not? Or if you did and now don't why?

For me, I have tried it, and even gotten drunk before, but got nothing out of it besides tired and a headache, and, frankly, it tastes like absolute ****, so put me in the camp of I just don't get it. There is also a religious reason to it for me, but that is less of am impetus for me than it might be for others.

How about you?

If this was already discussed I apologize for the repeat, so just answer the question Claire!

I debated making this public, but thought there might be folks out there that would vote but might not want to make it known what their choice was. So if you want it to be public make a comment!

Since I am not a drinker I probably missed a few reasons and should have put in an "other" vote, but oh well. What did I miss?

The older I get, the more of a spirits guy I become. Good ryes, rums, and tequilas. I take the first ounce pretty quickly, then sip from there. I also like French wines with the mineral tones.

^anyone who thinks this stuff tastes "like ****" is only admitting naivety.... cuz they taste ****ing awesome.

side note: is this the worst offseason in jazzfanz history?

Well, I get pretty annoyed with drinkers who claim they don't drink for the alcohol content. I think it's a lie.

I drink coffee...because it has caffeine in it. I also like the flavor of some coffee over other, and want to enjoy the flavor of it as much as possible. If all I wanted was the caffeine I could take a caffeine pill.

I drink beer...because it has alcohol in it. But I also like the flavor of most beer and enjoy trying a variety of beers with different qualities and flavors. If all I wanted was the alcohol I could drink shots of ice cold vodka.

A pet peeve of mine is silly distinctions between being buzzed, tipsy, drunk, and trashed. I say that if you are influenced at all by the alcohol then you are drunk. There is certainly a spectrum of how drunk you can be, but the lines are extremely fuzzy.

I drink cause I enjoy being drunk.
I dont really care too much about taste.... I'm mostly going with high amount of alcohol and cheap price.

I prefer bourbon and whiskey and especially bourbon whiskey, but I will drink vodka, tequila, rum, scotch, wine, beer, malt liquor, mix drinks, whatever tequila rose and alize are, wine coolers, zimas, natty light, mad dog 20/20....... about the only thing I dont drink is gin, super dark bitter stout beer ala guiness, and lord calvert.

I aint picky.

No offense, but where's the option that says "I drink because Lowgrade can be an exhaustingly passive-aggressive bra," bra?

Not true in my case, it would be great if I can drink alcohol and not get drunk. I truly just enjoy the 'flavour'. You can't compare the flavour of alcohol to an orange juice I don't think because alcohol has more than just the 'taste', it has the 'aroma' as well incorporated into the flavour which brings your nose into it as well as your tongue.

As an example, try steaming mussels in pot without adding white wine, it just doesn't taste the same.

I don't drink for personal personal reasons, which of course have their roots in religious reasons.

I've had alcohol once in my life-- I tried a couple different things that day in a pre-determined fit of curiosity, and I didn't find that they tasted as badly as I thought they would.

I would for sure be a beer, or a wine, or a spirits connoisseur if I did drink alcohol-- I find the immense culture surrounding the creation of many alcoholic drinks very interesting-- moreso than simply drinking what 'gets the job done', so to speak.

I prefer bourbon and whiskey.

I answered, "I DON'T DRINK...for largely religious/morality reasons." But a more complete answer would add, "... and because my grandfather was an alcoholic and nearly ruined his life before he pulled back from the brink of disaster, and I don't want that to happen to me."

I thank God for the teaching of the LDS church that we should not drink at all. Because of that I've never been tempted to go down the road my grandpa did.

One of the great benefits of getting your alcohol from beer is its relatively low alcohol content. A 6%abv beer is 94% water. Alcohol is a diuretic and hangovers are largely caused by dehydration. Drinking potent mixed drinks and even wine gives you a lot less water per quantity of ethanol. It is also easy to continue drinking beer for an extended period without going overboard. I think that's one of the reasons beer is such a popular beverage.
