The decision to trade or keep Lauri will be one of the biggest decisions the franchise makes this summer. If he is traded, one would think there is high potential for this to happen on draft day. Lauri IS ELIGIBLE to be traded. Use this thread to talk about potential trade destinations and packages for Lauri Markannen.

I'm probably duplicating a thread, but I don't want to look for it.

The chance of something not happening is generally going to be greater than something happening, so I picked no. I don't think it would be impossible though.

One reason to execute on draft night is to control the pick of a team who might not have the assets otherwise because of stepian rules. I'm not sure who that would apply to?

Last night I was thinking about a potential Lauri trade to TOR, and I think that makes a lot of sense for TOR. Makes it kind of tight money wise, but they really need to sort out their roster fit wise.

Trade would be something like:

Barrett/Boucher (S&T)/and #9 for Lauri.

This would allow the Jazz to disappoint me by passing on Kas/Jase for Demin.

Another team to watch in a similar range is the Blazers at #11. Last year they traded #14 for Deni and that was a great success. They do not seem interested in tanking, but are up for sale. They could send back expiring salary.

No chance, he was bad last year.

-35 missed games due to back injuries and willingness to throw games.
-BPM of -0.3 (!!!) with other advanced stats suggesting he was an average starter even when playing.
-First year of five year max.
-Just had no explosion whatsoever during the whole season. Could not dunk and looked really bad physically.

He needs 20 great games before the Jazz trade him. He's probably worth a mid first right now? And that's a humiliation for the Jazz that they can't accept after fumbling him so badly as a trade piece.

Even if he was somehow traded this offseason, every team is going to wait to see where Giannis and Durant end up first.

I could see him traded by the start of the season. It appears that there are several trades being discussed out there that could fit his salary slot—e.g., KD, Giannis, Zion, etc. Jazz ought to be viewed as a team who can facilitate a big deal.

I'm still waiting for someone to provide me with a good answer as to why the Jazz gave Lauri a max deal instead of trading him when his value was sky high.

That massive blunder isn't talked about nearly enough. IMO it's a fireable offense.

It feels like his value is at an all (Jazz)time low and I don't think this is conducive to the Jazz trading him. I think we only trade him if we get something we value really highly ... we won't trade him just to trade him... just to add like... 2 bad first round picks or something of the sort. I don't think this happens.

The idea was that the Jazz would win a top 2 pick in both 2025 and 2026 and then someone the guys they picked would not only be star prospects but stars ready to contribute to a deep playoff run basically immediately in 2026-2027. Then they could take Markkanen off the couch and contend for a title.

This was obviously a terrible plan.

No. I've been saying for past two seasons Lauri will be traded earliest at 2026 trade deadline. Now that he had a bad season I'm even more certain about that. Originally my thought process was they want to see his fit with the 2025 pick and see if the new piece is a massively NBA ready and soon.

Now that they only got the 5th pick and there's not as much development from neither the young guys nor Lauri honestly... I'm going to guess we'll see more game sets drawn to him than ever since the two months before ASG 2023 in Utah. They will try get his prize up again. Some other veterans might be traded in the summer but not everyone. They'll keep someone along to provide some extra veteran support. I'd think Clarkson at least stays.
