WOJ: Korver to Jazz for Burks and 2 second rounders

You don’t understand why a player with an elite specialist skill would be enticing to an NBA team, especially a skill as important as the 3pt shot,to complement the stars that you may already have?

Still haven’t forgiven him for admitting he passed up 3 point shots to try to keep his 3pt percentage up. Not into a guy that admits his personal stats are more important than doing what is best for the team.

And it wasn't like it didn't matter if he took them or not. We were in position to be 4th in the west with just a couple very doable wins. Late in those games, with a close score, Korver is open for 3, he gets the ball, looks at the shot, he's open and then passes to someone else who now has a short clock to try to score. Those possessions cost us home court in the first round.

That's who Korver is to me. I cannot support him. I can't.

I was mad as hell about this. Inexcusable, but I'm over it. Obviously so is the Jazz FO because they made the trade. And if what Windhorst said is true, then glad Kyle got his wish,

I really liked Burks and felt he was badly mistreated by Corbin and Quin. Quins short leash was inexplicable and undeserved when comparing the leash given to Mitchell/Oneal/Rubio/etc, Burks deserved better. Cleveland is a place where he can shine if it's there, if he doesn't I'll just have to admit I was wrong. Gone is our best player for creating around the basket. This move is awesome for Utah. Utah needed a shooter who can fire quickly with accuracy. They did not have that guy until this afternoon. Korver can literally change games for Utah who is one of the top two teams for creating open looks. At some point, I believe guys will start making those open looks. Korver will have quarters with 5 threes made. He is underrated defensively, but he is a geezer. Everyone wins with this trade.

Burks got his chances. He had some very good games through the years, but also a lot of terrible ones.

Mitchell is our best player for creating shots. But he has to have an outlet. Teams know they just have to stop Donovan inside because no one else is a real threat. Jingles generally isn't going to put up more than 4-5 3's. You live with that. But Kyle is a shooter; he doesn't need much time or space to shoot. Quin's offense is creating a lot of open 3's. But we have few players who are hitting them. Getting Korver means we now have 2 players who can hit the 3 at a high percentage. He doesn't solve all our problems, but it's a step in the right direction. Maybe Allen can also pick up a thing or two from him.

The only reason to hate this trade is it gets rid of a big expiring. I was hoping maybe Favors + Burks + other assets might land us Porter or some other big fish. But Dennis probably explored those options. He can still clear space if a free agent comes knocking. It's a small step in the right direction. Dennis made a move and I'm frankly quite surprised.

Everyone was after Korver these days so we kind of overpaid, I understand that.
Not sure why we keep spending those 2nd round picks though. Jokic is a 2nd rounder. Middleton is a 2nd rounder. With the talent pool getting larger each year there will be increasingly more talent in 2nd rounds going forward. For a club based on drafting and developing young players we made a desperate move that hurts us long-term. DL is the first guy to know that but I guess he faced immense pressure from everyone probably including Coach Q too.

I love Korver by the way. Two underrated aspect of this deal is he will help Grayson Allen and his contract is flexible.

^You can cite a few success stories, but of the 30 2nd round picks every year, how many actually turn out to be more than end-of-bench players> Most don't even make it to the NBA. You also have to look at Lindsey's draft record. For all the players he brings in, he's had very little success in the 2nd round.

2013 - traded up for Neto.
2014 - sold pick (Memphis took Jarnell Stokes)
2015 - Olivier Hanlan, sold other 2nd round pick (Dani Diez)
2016 - Bolomboy and Tyronne Wallace
2017 - Nigel Williams Goss
2018 - sold pick

Lindsey has done nothing in 5 years with all the extra seconds he's had. Just as easy to find a player overseas (O'Neale) or a roster cut from another team (Ingles).

Anyone care to explain why Klay Thompson who seemingly has a similar skill set and even shoots a lower 3 point percentage than Korver, happens to be 10x the player Korver is? Besides the obvious. We know Klay is better defender. But Klay isnt known for taking people off the dribble. Or being a play maker. Yet, somehow he makes a much larger impact.

Its much more than analytics. Korver isnt good.

So, err, because Korver isn't Klay he isn't good?

I like this trade. Korver's threat to shoot alone should open up the offense for Mitchell and even Exum/Rubio to an extent, though they need to make their layups. Defensively, Korver will be put on the opposing team's worst offensive player and he will be encouraged to funnel his man into the heart of our defense since ours in not a big switching type defense.
