World Cup Thread

I would like to see the United States and Germany make some noise this year. I really think Germany has a shot, but Ballack's injury is making me worried.

Really Archie? The World Cup is a joke? How about you do a little research on it. Also, quit listening/watching Jim Rome. The guy is a douchnozzle to the nth degree.

It wasn't Jim Rome who said it, he might of, but I didn't hear it from him.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/f...tickets-still-available-for-South-Africa.html

What research do you want me to do? The fact that the worlds most popular sport can't even sell out its largest venue? Is that not a joke? Am I missing something?

Well first off it's the worlds most watched sporting event. Surpasses the Olympics...

715.1 million people watched the final match of the 2006 World Cup held in Germany

And from that article you linked a couple paragraphs in
Fifa believe they can still take that figure up to around 98 per cent, a ratio which would be comparable with past World Cups, including the hugely popular and fan friendly 2006 tournament in Germany

On top of that there are a total of 2.9 million tickets available. 100,000 left aint bad, and they will sell most of those. And like the article says, most of those are due to the financial situaiton in South Africa. That doesn't make it a joke. If you want to talk about a joke look at ratings and attendance to the NBA playoffs.

Did you read my previous post? If you did, does that not somehow change your mind at all?

Archie,

I like you, but you could not be more wrong or retarded about this.

The World Cup is the biggest sports event in the world.

The tickets situation has more to do with the larger issue of the host sites failure to accomodate everyone in an affordable way.

Archie - please listen carefully: Soccer doesn't need you. Please stop wasting your time and go take a dump on some other thread.

Fair enough.

"Fifa’s main difficulty appears to be finding buyers for the most expensive tickets. The ‘category one’ prices range from $160 (£110) to $900 (£623) and so are clearly unaffordable for a vast number of local people in South Africa. "

How much were tickets to a lower bowl game for a Jazz playoff game? How many Jazz games were not sold out during the playoffs? I'm just saying... $160 to $900 bucks isn't that much. Tickets are sold to locals and non-locals. I'm sure there are millions of soccer fans who could afford those tickets.
