What's new

Would you be disappointed if we don't make Playoff this season?

Seems like Hood falling back to Earth is what has caused our problems.

Looks like I didn't respond previously, but my answer is "definitely yes, I'd be disappointed". And what may be more important than having the young players get 4 games of playoff experience, I think missing the playoffs altogether seriously damages our chances of re-signing Hayward.

Look, Hay's a nice player, but is he worth losing all this sleep over? We plucked Rodney Hood at 23 and, to me he's going to end up the better player.

And Gobert fumbling the ball away while being less of a presence than before. But Utah is exactly the team they were before an easy schedule sent them on a 7-game streak. Jazz are 10-9 since the game before that streak began. Jazz should be a few games south of or right around .500, IMO. They're a pretty weak team outside the 4 main starters plus whichever 3rd-string PG they throw in the game.

And colton has hit the nail on the head. To retain Hayward, I think DL HAD to do something. Hayward deserves all-star votes, he deserves a serious shot at the national team. And both of those are an uphill battle when people associate him with a losing franchise. Gordon SHOULD and likely WILL leave. I certainly will not be critical of him for doing so. It is Lindsey who is to blame when/if that happens. DL has had plenty of chances and loads of cap space to give the team a better bench. Injuries are a poor excuse. All teams have them. Clippers, Memphis, etc are surviving and winning. DL has just been cheap. But his last foray into the lottery might cost the Jazz their best player. I think he may have lingered a few hands too many at the lottery table.

I am not ready to say Hood is the better player over Hayward with just one hot month. Hayward has been "good" for years, Hood would need to provide more consistent output for a longer stretch.

The emotional part of me would be disappointed.

But knowing that we likely be 7th or 8th spot in the West which means getting eliminated in the first round by Warriors or Spurs, the logical part of me actually rather stays clear of those bottom seeding and get a pick.

Yep.

We should have trade G-time before the deadline tbh

This summer should be an equally good time, if not better. Teams before the deadline would have wanted Gordon for a playoff push. They're not going to give up anything of serious value. Teams that are out of the playoff hunt don't necessarily want to hurt their draft stock. This summer, any team can maneuver for Gordon and give up a young players and assets in return. There is also a huge increase in the cap so salary matching is of little concern.

But a trade isn't going to happen. Jazz were rumored to have interest in Millsap last summer. And what did they do beforehand? They signed Elijah, who was clearly not BPA in the DLeague. Hayward can opt out after next season. So what does DL do? Gets Captain Hayward his little buddy, Shelvin.

Definitely not. I think I said in one or more threads before the season started that I did NOT think the Jazz would make it to the playoffs.

I agree.
I mean sure it will suck if he leaves after all the playoff wins he has carried the jazz to, but really is he worth the 25 million he is gonna get?
