If you had no cartilage in your knees, and the doctor told you to never run, play sports, or do anything with impact, would you still try and play ball if that mean having knee replacements by the age of 30. Would you consider ACI surgery?

Not being able to play ball, run, or be active is literally killing me. It stresses me out. I hate not being able to sweat, run, and get out of breath. I went and played ball today and I'm hoping I can walk tomorrow. haha (I played half speed and still dominated and dunked on someone.... Win. Best feeling ever)

Can you not play any sports? Or just high impact physical sports like basketball? If you can still exercise and stay in shape, I would just stop playing high impact sports. If even that is restricted, I guess I'd do the surgery? O.o

I can lift and I've been lifting everyday, but that just doesn't do it for me like running or playing ball. Getting old is depressing.

You're in your twenties! The prime of your health. You got a bad knee. That sucks, but it could be much worse. Just switch to a sport that doesn't put stress on your knees. Sometimes none of your options are ideal. That's life. :(

Basically all of my physical activity energy has been focused into competitive gaming. Still have to work really hard to play, but it's a mental game instead of a physical game. It's a good outlet.

We expect professional athlete to take the risk of crippling themselves for the sport (play through the pain, etc.). It's stupid for amatuers to do that.

Better to deal with it now instead of just making it worse out of pure stubborness. If you think you're depressed now, you ain't seen nothin' yet. Time to man up and accept the situation for what it is, then adapt accordingly. Water sports isn't a bad idea at all. Maybe a mountain bike? Whatever you do, living in denial and making it worse will be a HUGE mistake. Make some changes now before you **** yourself up.

Sometimes life throws you a curveball for a reason. Rather than obsessing over what you can't do anymore, look at it as a chance to find satisfaction in something you might not have otherwise. It's quite possible it'll turn out a lot better than you think.

Father time is undefeated, so instead of butting heads, try working with him.

Not necessarily. If playing ball is what makes you happy, then do it and get new knees.
What if you loved to read, learn, research .. But it somehow hurt your knees, would you stop? Dumb analogy, I admit, but it's not always easy to tell someone it is stupid if we lack the proper empathy.

If there were such a thing as being able to fix your knees, then I'd say go for it. If being able to walk wasn't one of the most basic and important things a human being could do, then I'd say go for it.

It is not worth it. I'm glad every single day that I was too scared/lazy to pursue skateboarding, my knees (and ankles) being in good shape being the biggest reason.

I may change my answer. I thought Archie said if he continues to play then, one day, he'll need knee replacements. I know a dozen guys with knee replacements that bike, hike, etc with very little discomfort.

If the reality is not being able to walk.. Then yeah, no more bb.

I'd look into biking either road or mountain or both. High aerobic low impact. My knees are holding out so I can still run but when the day comes that my knees can't take it longer I'm gonna start biking.

You're a father, right? Eh your life is already over with, might as well give up and work on a retirement fund.
