I'm with you on most things, but what has people worried is atm he is soooooo inept at driving to the rim even when he does take the odd gentle foray. I'm hoping it comes with a year or two but can be quite frustrating to watch at times.

I agree it can be. Quinn also spends a ton of time working on those floaters with him. When he gets it down it will be unstoppable. I hope/assume that when Exum develops physically more he will take the ball to the hoop more physically when needed. No reason to beat him up more than he already is. Exum's vertical will go waaayyyy up over the next few years as well.

He's not winning type of player like Westbrook isnt. They have their flaws and more athleticism than smarts, but it's still useful, and you can still win with it.

I don't hate Exum. I still like his potential. I just like Lavine and his potential more at this point. Although, he is on the Wolves. They may destroy him.

I wouldn't say Westbrook isn't a winning player. He wins. His team has a winning record.

Some people might make that argument. I dont think Exum sucks right now. I do think he has a lot of developing to do, which he will. Exum is an above average defender for his position in the league. that is half of the game. He is below average offense but not as bad as some make it out to be. He is playing within the system and trying not to make mistakes. People here want a scoring pg from Exum, for some reason, even though fans have been begging for a pass first pg which is what Exum is. He is developing fine and he is completely worn out from this season.

Stocktons numbers his first three years in the league were not that great, he developed pretty well. Stockton was also 4 years older when he was a rookie. Stockton was not doing much in college when he was the same age as Exum.

Would Jazz fans be happy next year if Exum puts up the same stats Stockton did in his 2nd season? He averaged 7.7 points on 48% shooting and 13 percent on threes and 7.1 assist

Stop hoping Exum skips steps in development and start appreciating he is learning the game right, trying to play smart winning basketball. He is listening to the coaches and doing what they ask of him.

The coaching staff knows what they are doing with Exum, there is a reason he is not driving to the rack every possession. He will drive more when he gets the game down.

Exum has shown he has elite potential at defense and passing and an ability to hit open set threes. Seems like a dream player for this team. When other parts of his game develop, when he puts as much effort into them as he is on other parts of his game, watch out.

Exum will be the second best PG in Utah Jazz history. Some will argue the best because he will have a chip to hang his hat on.

I agree Exum could still be good. I just think Lavine can be better, and probably will be.

This season is the least I have ever followed the NBA, but if Lavine is being compared to Westbrook it's like a super duper poor mans Westbrook that dunks awesome, right??

No. Not really.

Hes turning out to be a lot more than just a dunker. I see a lot of potential there. He might still be a poor man's Westbrook, but not by much.

Lavine already looks like he's going to be a good shooter, a good passer, and good handles, with the upside of being great at all those things, on top of being a great dunker. He's making mistakes like you would expect any 19 year old to do. He shows a lot of flashes of being special.

I'm kicking myself for taking TJ Warren over him now. I debated the two heavily, but wasn't sure then. I'm pretty sure now. I already tried to get Rowcheestew to trade him to me, but he wont. He's pretty high on him too.

The only thing that Exum looks better at than Lavine is defense. And Exum plays a little more under control, but to a point that it's a negative. I'd take the mistakes Lavine makes, for his upside

No, Lavine plays for himself, not the team. He'll randomly jack up a shot at any time, guarded or not. Those type of players have a ceiling of Nick Young. While I've lost all hope Exum will be a star, he could still be a Rubio variant.

I see those mistakes as learning the game wrong and picking up bad habits. I would like Exum to make a few more mistakes but I dont think the coaching staff does and they know more than I do about development than me. They seem to pull him for small mistakes like not shooting open shots, not making the right pass, not getting the team into the offense correctly, messing up a defensive assignment and coach him up then send him back in. I trust our staff to develop players correctly. I think if Exum had been drafted by Minnesota he would be driving a lot more like he did in the U18 games.

Exum's decision to never, ever attempt a shot at the rim is far worse than any mistakes Levine and Burke are making.

I dont dislike Burke as much as most on this board do. I think he shooting will improve and his decision making will improve but I would rather watch a team play good solid basketball and good defense. I dont like watching players jack up stupid shots because they think they are better than they are, Lavine is very frustrating to watch as is Burke a lot of the time.

But to each their own, people like different ****.

And if we picked Lavine?

You don't think the the Jazz could make something special of him and teach how to play right?

I think where you end up as player has a lot to do with how you turn out. I don't think it's based on destiny. I think players succeed for a lot of different reasons, and likewise fail as well. Two is the fit and who is teaching them.
