And if we picked Lavine?

You don't think the the Jazz could make something special of him and teach how to play right?

I think where you end up as player has a lot to do with how you turn out. I don't think it's based on destiny. I think players succeed for a lot of different reasons, and likewise fail as well. Two is the fit and who is teaching them.

good points

one thing i will say for lavine is his shooting stroke looks really nice compared to Dante

I think the Jazz would develop him better than Minnesota. I dont think he will ever be a pass first PG or a PG that looks to improve his teamates. I think his basketball IQ is low based on his career so far and I dont see that changing drastically even if Jazz drafted him.

Based on our team and the Snyders system Exum is a much better fit long term. This team is set up for a selfless, high IQ, low mistakes PG.

Its also much easier to develop a player who works hard, has high IQ, is very competitive and grew up learning fundamentals of basketball. Lavine grew up coddled and seemingly spent his time working on his 1v1 skills and dunks. The way his dad acted when he was in college really turned me off from him as well.

I am not saying there are not things I like about Lavine, I just like Exum better long term and short term.

No, Lavine plays for himself, not the team. He'll randomly jack up a shot at any time, guarded or not. Those type of players have a ceiling of Nick Young. While I've lost all hope Exum will be a star, he could still be a Rubio variant.
Kobe is that type of player.
I think Kobe was better than Nick young

Zack Lavine has a 46" vertical leap. He has incredible shooting range and is actually aggressive. I thought he had the more potential at draft day and Exum has shown NOTHING. Exum is useless on the court and I don't think that's going to improve dramatically next year. He has zero bball iq and I would be shocked if he improves next year. Let's admit it, HE"S A BUST.

Lavine's D made Kanter look like Gobert. Dude will have sweet dunks and put up good #'s but his team will always suck balls.

So why don't you contact the Utah Jazz organization and ask them to hold a press conference and explain why they chose Dante Exum over Zack Lavine. Clearly your view holds far more weight than the due diligence the Jazz organisation took when studying and interviewing all the draft choices before making their selection.

Even though the Jazz came out right from the start and said that Exum was a project and was drafted not for what he can do now, but for the type of player they feel he can develop into.

Little did the Jazz know is that all they had to do was give you a phone call and then drafted Lavine because he has incredible shooting range and is far more aggressive.

I don't mind people having opinions, but I just don't understand why people follow sports teams and then whine about the decisions they make when trying to rebuild their team

This subject is a question for 2 or 3 years time.

I like Lavine... Dante has more upside. Zach's defense is god awful... he'll probably improve. Dante's defense is really good and we don't know about his offense. I'd take Dante today and my guess is in 3 or 4 years the debate won't be close.

I would argue that we do know about Dante's offense, and it's awful. Just as bad as Zach's defense.

Lavine is a MUCH better player right now, but I still would not trade Dante for him. We had to know when drafting him that Dante's learning curve was going to be huge. I'm expecting major leaps from Dante next year. Plus, we don't really need a wing scorer right now. I think Lavine ends up being a really good starting 2. We HAVE to find a good PG.

I don't get why people keep bashing Lavine's BB IQ. He's averaging more assists per minute than Dante, and that is with far worse players around him. He does average an extra TO per game, but I chalk that up to being aggressive and learning. Just because the guy put his head down at the draft doesn't mean he's not a smart player or good teammate. I follow the wolves pretty closely and from all account Lavine is the hardest working person on the team. Apparently he has repeatedly asked to skip some team activities (bowling, movies, dinner) to stay in the gym with a coach and work on his game.

As for Dante, not many players averaging 4 pts, 2 assists, 1.5 rebounds a game get to play 22 minutes a game. He should consider himself fortunate. He HAS to improve substantially just to stick in the league. I think he will.

Please tell me you're trolling! Please!

Agree with Alaskin Assassin. Dante will get better, but these arguments against Lavine are stupid at best. Lavine is a very hard worker who wants to get better. You pair that with his size, age, natural aggressiveness and incredible talent, and it is really hard to imagine him as failing.
