Would you trade Favors or Gobert for #1 pick Ben Simmons

You think he's a better prospect than Anthony Davis?

Not necessarily. Davis once he finished his first year had shown some amazing things, but had a slow start or Cal had him playing so far in his lane that he looked limited. I liked Davis a lot... reminded me of KG/Duncan.

Then you realize he still struggles to do things offensively in traffic and gets out-muscled/bullied by Steven Adams. Still a great defensive player and potential for DPOY, but All-NBA might be forever out of reach if he can't improve on his center of gravity or hands.

100% certain this trade never happens or is even entertained by anyone in a position of power.

I'm not saying Gobert is flawless or untouchable. I'm just commenting on how worthlessly fickle 90% of people's opinions around here are. One day, he's being compared to Hakeem. The next, just dump him for whoever. It's incredible.

I personally think Gobert is about our most important player, regardless of all this talk about small ball. He has the ability to guard smaller players to some extent, on top of being the best rim protector in the NBA. I think his game has regressed in one important area; his PnR defense. He no longer closes out on the shooter, and he just stays with his man allowing an open shot. Every. Single. Time. But it is fixable.

I also don't think he's this terrible offensively. The team should stop passing to him in the post and watch him squirm until he is called for a travel. He should get more lobs, and should try to get position deeper below the basket like he did at the end of last year. He has the potential to be a 12 pts 12rbs player RIGHT NOW, and he is as good a center as you'll find.

We need a major upgrade at the PG spot and a backup big, preferably one who can space the floor. If Favors can be traded for a quicker big with more shooting ability and about equal value, then you do it. But I don't think those kinds of players grow on trees.

In the off-season (that's only 13 games ago), people were discussing whether they'd trade Gobert for Durant or Lebron (and some said they wouldn't). Now they want him gone for a pick. It's really funny.

To be fair contract considerations were a part of that discussion. Would you trade Gobert for a possible one year rental of Lebron or Durrant? Most people said, no, it wasn't worth it. Both are free agents next year. If you cold trade for a resigned Durrant or Lebron, that makes a big difference.

I'm skeptical if Jazz can run off a 5 gm win streak.
Riiight. Just give the Jazz a 5-game win streak, and Gobert will become a forum candidate for MVP again.

Seems like a hole defensively at PG,that's always springing leaks and weakens the total impact that Favors and Gobert can deliver. That's not the only problem though, very rarely is the bench a game changer ,they can score but lack rebounding and lockdown defensive effort.

Yep, I'm totally for it. If we can flip a #27 Draft Pick for Simmons you do it no matter what, throw in whatever extra.

Drives me a bit nutty when people use the place a player was drafted as an indication of their value. It is a sunk cost that is irrelevant to future decisions. No doubt if the draft were redone today Gobert would be top 5, could even be first.

no need, we are going to miss the playoffs by 1 game, win the lotto, and pick Simmons.

No team is going to trade the #1 pick. But yes, I would trade one of them for Simmons.
Yep. I would do it.
We still don't have THAT GUY.

Lots of good players but no star.

People (myself included) have been laughing at the debacle that is Philly but if they get Simmons this year, they just might have the last laugh.

lol if that's true.

This.
I would like a link.

I was/am as big a Gobert homer as anybody and I'm quite positive I never said something that outlandish

I would like to know who compared Gobert to hakeem and also who wants to just dump him for whatever.

Ben Simmons has superstar potential... like top 5 player potential... on a cheap contract and seemingly ready to contribute now. Assuming the cap doesn't change much a small market team like ourselves would almost have to make the trade of either Favs or Gobert for Simmons. I love both Favs and Gobert.

If by potential you mean 10%, yeah I would agree. Want to bet the farm on 10% ?

Rudy is going to be just fine, when he adjusts to teams adjusting to him. And when he gets to play with a PG who can THROW HIM A DECENT DAMNED LOB PASS.

Deandre Jordan is doing just fine despite being an offensive imbecile. Rudy can shoot far better than him, at this stage i don't think his strengths are being utilized on the offensive end. He needs a full offseason not playing for his national team as well.

People forget that this team is barely half a season removed from totally sucking ballzz, and #27 has barely begun his career as a starting centre. There are going to be growing pains, Rudy is still totally untouchable in my book.

btw those who know him say Simmons is an arrogant douche ...

Here's a thread where 7 people said he'll be BETTER than Duncan (2 said he'd be as good). ;)

There are actually plenty of such comparisons from last year. It's not like it was a rare thing.

As for the other side, just look at Couscous, who says Gobert is comparable to Ostertag!

haha i don't think I ever said. but if you actually tried to look it up, I have always maintained that Rudy best case ceiling is prime Tyson Chandler.
