Wall was #1 on my board, but since we had Deron, he wouldn't have been my choice had we won the lottery. At that point I would have voted to trade down a few spots. Gotta admit that since our weakness has always been at the 5, I was hoping KOC could swing a deal w/ Sacramento to get Cousins. If Deron had a problem with Sloan making him earn a starting position, imagine what Cousins would have done last season. I'll admit I also saw Turner as a great fit at a position of need.

Guess it worked out for the best. Jazz got the big man KOC wanted, Hayward looks like a great pick at #9 and we're now cashing in one of the other chips from the Deron trade. Certainly better than ending up with Turner or Cousins.

Just commenting on how sure your tone is regarding certain picks, particularly risky ones like Biyombo. We all tend to forget about the people we pimped where we were wrong and we tend to remember who we picked that panned out well. Hence, we all think we know who the best picks are (which is why there is such rabid fighting).

The Thriller isn't dissuaded from speaking confidently about draft picks even though he very publicly and vocally over a period of several months made the case that Jarrett Jack would be a better NBA player than Deron Williams and should be selected by the Jazz.

The only person I've seen outright give up on draft prognostication is the late SeattleJazzFan after several very bad busts (Gerald Green, Sene, etc etc). All the Cole Aldrich admirers from last year are confidently making predictions this off-season like the Aldrich prediction never happened.

We're all just guessing from a very limited amount of information. There's reasons to believe particular players (Kanter, Irving, Williams) could explode and reasons to believe that some players probably aren't of NBA caliber (Jimmer has been chronicled extensively on this issue). But the two players you picked are particular question marks that fit into the "physical marvel, questionable skills" category. Those are generally the hardest to predict. The pretense of sure knowledge in those instances is pure foolishness.

Proving my point here about selective memory I just interrogated my brain and remembered that I had a very strong preference for Luke Babbitt over Gordon Hayward. I'm pretty sure that would get me laughed out of the forum today. Wasn't alone though.

Actually in that case, I was dead serious. If the Jazz could drop a few spots in order to unload Bell, that deal would be worth it. I also admit to being a fan of Evan Turner last year, and I'm not sure he still won't turn out to be a good player. I would give Philly the #12 for him.

Had this board been around in the early 90's, I would have been laughed at because two of my "The Jazz Need This Guy" players were Rodney Monroe, an undersized shooting guard from NC State, and Lucious Harris, a quick shooting guard from Long Beach State. Both had cups of coffee in the NBA but neither could, what's the word I'm looking for...oh yeah, play. But that was back in the days when the Jazz needed someone at the 2-guard position who could shoot and create their own shot. Thank god those days are over.
