Let the record also state that the ecological repercussions that the grazing can cause in SW USA (as inferred by Dr. NAOS, PhD) is actually a good point, and one that strikes my interest. People haven't been talking about that enough.

Shepherds are destroying the soil and the great basin wild rye where my land is. The land is becoming less and less suitable for even ranching. They leave these huge swaths that sagebrush even has a hard time growing in. To the point of cryptobiotic soil crusts I have to say I have witnessed their destruction and it is important. The wind blows and where they have grazed heavily the soil goes with it. How quickly do you think soil is deposited in a place with no deciduous trees?

I think it is shameful that future generations will not get the use that this one had. I've also heard that they used to graze cattle out there but the land can no longer support them. Planning on a fence and trying to rehab it my little bit. Maybe one day I can leave my children a little piece of earth that is usable, healthy, and better than I found it.
 
While I'm at it.

I have thought about trying to raise a small herd of native pronghorn.(eventually) Does anyone know if this would be legal? Also would there be a market for them as a specialty meat/trophy? It wouldn't have to be profitable I have just read that they do eat sage brush as well as grasses and if they can have a positive impact on the land then great.

I didn't know we had a band! Can I play triangle? Also, I just realized that I make six figures (when I include the 2 numbers behind the decimal point).

Dude!! By that scale I make 7!! Wish I had known that. Must be my lack of PHDs and knowing the diferrence between plants and crops. I knew that would come back to bite me...
