What's new

You hear a knocking at your window and your first instinct is to shoot into the darkness?

There would be a huge backlash to this as the anti gun groups would see it as surrendering to a gun culture. Good idea but like so many good ideas it won't pass.

It is a good idea, and an old one really. Schools had rifle clubs and classes not too long ago. And not just rural ones either. My dad could take guns to school(not that I'm advocating that to return, but gun classes would be worthwhile) in the Los Angeles area and he's only in his 50's.

If I wanted to catch bad guys, I'd be a cop. If I wanted to kill people, I'd join the armed forces. Let me repeat, I don't want to kill anyone. However, I take my home and my family seriously. I don't care if you're stealing my bike, my gas, my golf clubs, etc. it doesn't matter, you're taking money from me, which means you take it from my family, which harms me and my family. I have zero tolerance for theft. I won't stand for it. If someone needs something that bad, ring my doorbell and there is a damn good chance I'll give you whatever you need. I'm sorry that you think I'm trying to be macho or some sort of super hero vigilante or something, but that's just not the case.

Agreed, that guy is an *** hat.

Teenager, old guy, woman, black, white, it doesn't matter. Don't steal from me.

Okay, so you think anyone who steals from you deserves to die at your hand. Understood.

You're also saying you'd opt for killing a person rather than simply stopping them and handing them over to the police.

That's called murder. The penalty for murder can be death. The penalty for burglary is not ever death. I don't have any tolerance for thieves, but I have a lot less tolerance for murderers.

This is why I can't support this place the gun right's movement has taken us. This is insanity. We're not five years old. We should be able to take a far enough step back to see how stupid it would be to kill a person when you don't absolutely have to in order to protect the LIFE of your self or another innocent person.

Actually, accusing you of trying to be macho or some sort of super hero or vigilante would be more flattering that what I actually think about you given the casual nature in which you assert that someone who attempts to steal from you or your family deserves the death penalty administered by your hand.

I think gun training should be taught in a high school level civics class. The students should fire a gun on a gun range as part of the class.

Everyone has a right to have a gun, then everyone needs to understand how guns work and know at the minimum the four rules of firearm safety.

instead it's more like the Fight Club rules...

the first rule of gun safety is we don't talk about gun safety...

Why don't you just tell us all how you really feel, Mr. Judgmental Pooh Finger. Seriously, what is so outrageous about protecting your own home from thieves?
