What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

The Nets want to sign two max free agents. A sign and trade involving D'Lo ends that possibility. So I don't see it happening.
Under the most recent CBA, could a sign and trade even be possible?

GS can't sign then trade KD. Boston can't sign then trade Kyrie. I guess Philly could sign then trade Tobias, but does Philly want to facilitate Brooklyn getting the guy they want to keep?

Every scenario I've seen shows Russell getting renounced if Brooklyn gets Kyrie and one more max guy (likely KD, Tobias or Butler). If anyone sees a source showing a sign and trade concept, please do share. If anything, maybe Brooklyn could sign and trade Russell to a team with space. Wouldn't it just make more sense for that team with space to just sign Russell without sacrificing the asset?

This is most important. The Conley option keeps the Jazz in control of the situation. ANY scenario involving FAs... well, you're risking a Hayward situation. Losing and losing big.

Exactly. If we wait for free agency it's VERY likely we end up empty handed or will have to sign one of two of the tier 3 or 4 free agents that won't really improve the team at all. I say we do whatever we can to trade for Conley before free agency and then we can still use the MLE and room exception to round out the roster.

And none of that means we’re Russell’s first or even second choice, or that we’ll get him.
True. But if you narrow down the teams with $25+ million in space and the need for a PG, you can only come up with Utah and Indy then maybe Dallas and NY if you think Doncic isn't a PG or Smith Jr isn't as good. Phoenix would be interested, but they don't have the money.

What would the details of a Conley trade look like if it was agreed too before free agency?

If it was completed before free agency we would have to include Favors correct? But if it was agreed upon in principle before free agency and completed after free agency begins then we wouldn't have to match salaries correct? What do think the details of the deal would be?

It can’t be completed until after FA. Can be agreed upon but not completed.

If we get Conley, start off around 30-15, we could be very attractive to guys wanting to bolt, and could get creative in trading some of our parts (Exum, Crowder, etc.) for one last upgrade in a major push.

Would Dante plus a first work financially or would we have to add more salary?
By renouncing Favs Rubio, Sefo and Udoh, we'd have the cap space. But ideally you want to keep salaries above the cap. Because once you drop below, you lose the MLE. So the best solution is to pick up Favs' salary and include him in the trade.
