If we are going to be getting rid off Favors, lets just get Bjelica and use the rest of the capspace on wing(s) and guard(s)
If these numbers tell an accurate story, it’s that while Bjelica is the scorer that Mirotic or Harris are (DUH), he has better floor-vision/passing ability and is a better defensive player. Some of that is that surprising since Bjelica was drafted as a PG (something I love).

I don’t know, y’all. Maybe you just get both Mirotic and Bjelica, but if they just got Bjelica and used the remaining cap on the best wing they can find, I’d be into that. As mentioned, there’s Lamb, but I’d have to think about who might be better.

Knowing that Harris is a pipe dream, I really want Portis. Which pisses me off because he’s a bit of a pipe dream as a RFA. Depending on how he’s valued by Washington. I’m assuming that in order for Portis to sign an offer sheet the jazz need to wave Favors contract.

I do think he’s low on their to do list though. Is he worth the risk?

Portis might be worse than Niko on defense. I think anything in the 10M range does not get matched by the Wiz. If they keep Sato and Bryant matching on Portis might throw them into the tax.

Yeah, maybe. I’m much more interested in Exum’s money being used better though. It’s probably a pipe dream. I feel like Sacramento is a team that might be happy to roll the dice on Exum.
Maybe. I guess we could combine ideas...

Kings get Exum
Knicks get Bradley and a 2nd from Kings
Jazz get Ntilikina and Bjelica

We keep Favors and Neto.

Knicks want more cap space and a 2nd for Frank. Done. All depends on how much we like and how much Sacramento likes Exum.

I'm not sure how these stats are telling you that Bjelica is a better defensive player than Mirotic. As HH says, the major difference that seems to exist is purely a function of minutes played.

Another difference based on last few years:
Tobias Harris creates a 3 about 20% of the time without an assist
Mirotic: about 9%
Bjelica: 5%
Jerebko: 0%
Portis: 0%
Maybe Butler forces Philly's hand with all this Houston talk which makes Philly overpay Butler (full 5 year max) right when free agency starts. After that happens, maybe Tobias isn't valued as much, isn't offered the same, etc. He's gonna have a tough decision.

Go look up some highlights of Niko... he's a more diverse scorer than many are giving him credit for. He has played well in the playoffs before, so one bad run doesn't bother me... if anything it lowered interest and his next contract value.

Not saying he's the only option, but I think he's the best reasonable option and I think he's ours if we want. We can negotiate hard because we have Favs as plan B.

OK, I see. I'm not sure I'd trust this stat as a good guide (and BB-ref admits it's not), since it seems to be based mostly on the block/steal/rebound combo. But I've seen other stats that show that Bjelica may be a bit better defender. So it could be that he is.

Oh, I'd agree (assuming Tobias is a pipe dream). I just watched a couple of his best offensive games this year: against GS and SAC. Granted these were his best games, but he showed so much more offensively than Bjelica in their head-to-head matchup. He'd very likely help raise the team's offensive rating (despite Favors's superior TS%), maybe by quite a bit. You just can't play off him (the way you might with a less talented but equally "efficient" stretch 4) with the combination of a relatively quick trigger, high usage, and high efficiency from deep.

But he was also hunted at the end of the game on defense by GS. I'm not a great evaluator, but I didn't see anything particularly wrong with his defensive approach and it seems he has the physical skills to play decent defense and is mostly attentive. Yet when GS targeted him on the P&R at the end, they scored almost every time. That scares me.

So I'm still leaning on the side of keeping Favors if it comes down to a situation where we have to pay Mirotic basically Favors's whole salary. I'm guessing that for the Jazz it may come down to what else they can get along with Mirotic if they jettison Favors.

I think Niko is a great option, but I think he’s probably at his ceiling as a player. I think the Jazz can develop Portis into an all-star caliber player still.
