Zach Lowe on Trevor Booker

The only fanz who say Booker would take Kanter's starting spot are the same fanz that are surprised Gobert improved from age 21 to 22,are the same fanz who think that Hayward doesn't have a chance to make the USA team. These same guys think that Kanter can't get better from age 21 to 22 as well .

Huh. I think Gobert has improved a lot. I have said over and over that Hayward makes the USA team. I think Kanter can get better. Doesn't mean he will. It just means that he has never shown he can pass effectively, he has never shown he can protect the rim, and he has never shown he can hit the three. According to this article, those are the three things big men have to do to get paid.

I never said he can't add those to his game. I've just said it's unlikely, and he only has a year to add all three. That is a tall task.

apples and oranges unless / until you put them in the same environment.
Kanter is a better player in almost every aspect of the game or so I tend to believe but I like Booker.
I liked him when he was @ college, too.
I'll have to wait and make up my own mind about this new comparison.

Booker was the starting PF on a playoff team last year for 1/2 the season. Kanter was the starting PF on a team that won...one game? Two games? Kanter has world's of potential. World's of potential. BUT, if I have to pay Kanter 13 million per, today, and Booker 5? I'm not sure who I'd pick.

And Booker can do none of this either, and is 4 inches shorter and 4 years older. Actually Booker can shoot decent, over 40% on his jumpers. So it would seem your post just went from being bad to awful.

You've never seen Booker play. He is a better passer. He is a better defender. He is a better role player right now. You can have him start on a playoff team and he will be passable. You don't know if you can do any of that with Kanter.

What you do know about Kanter is not that amazing. He doesn't pass well, he doesn't play defense, he hasn't shown range.

What Kanter does have over Booker is potential and time. At the right price, you take Kanter over Booker every day of the week. If you are approaching 10+ million per with Kanter, make sure you can help him reach his potential, or he will make Gordon's contract look like a steal.

BS!
Kanter is a way better rebounder, I know this!
He "may" prove you wrong and Jazz will benefit from that.
He is a way way way better scorer than Booker and bigger & stronger!
Booker is a midget in today's NBA.
(I have a liking for short PFs and Cs actually. Richard Scotts, Samardo Samuels and Dametri Hills of the world! Yeah, I am college basketball freak. and the one and only Paul Millsap. I was the first ever guy to mention Mansap on this forum when he as a junior at LATech. "Best kept secret of college basketball")

That all said, Kanter has some personal issues and I don't think he will be mature enough to realize the stakes. (that 10-65 M. pendulum).
I hope Booker with his toughness contribute immensely to the team and
may the better one start.

Man what part don't you understand,Booker wasn't signed to start.Booker gets 5 million this year and only guaranteed 600 thousand next year.Kanter is going to be the starter ,you might not like it but better get use to it.

I think it will be an open competition. Kanter is going to have to earn a starting role.

We brought Booker in to be a thug on a team full of pretty boys. He comes with a calloused man-muscle or two to put in our faces. I expect him to shake and rattle some meat... as far as the big men go.

LOL .. agreed with this. Hopefully even Favors could learn a thing or two from Booker's fighter demeanour.

Per tip-off yesterday, Locke said he asked Quin who the starters would be and Quin said we'll start with the returning five. There are more than five guys returning, but it is pretty obvious he wasn't including Ian Clark, and Jeremy Evans in those five. Kanter will start.

All you saying Kanter needs to earn his minutes are crazy. He needs game experience.

How I could see the rotation working:

C:
Favors -24 mins,
Gobert - 15 mins
Kanter - 9 Mins

48 mins total.

PF:
Kanter - 19 mins
Booker - 18 mins
Novak - 4 mins (who has also played SF)
Favors - 7 mins

48 mins total

SF:
Hayward - 28 mins
Hood - 16 mins
Novak - 4 mins

48 mins total

SG:
Burks - 26 mins
Exum - 12 mins
Hood - 4 mins
Hayward - 6 mins

PG:
Burke - 30 mins
Exum - 12 mins
Burks - 6 mins

48 mins total

Players' mins:

Favors - 31 mins
Kanter - 28 mins
Hayward - 34 mins
Burks - 32 mins
Burke - 30 mins
Gobert - 15 mins
Booker - 18 mins
Hood - 20 mins
Exum - 24 mins
Novak - 8 mins

Clark and Evans don't crack the roatation unless there is injury. I love Evans, but the reality is he has never developed the right skill set for his body type. If he came to camp with handles, defensive prowess for a wing, better passing, and a desire to score without his teammates telling him to, then obviously things are different. As for Clark, his release is just too slow and low, and he doesn't have PG skills. Things could change, but as of now, they aren't in the rotation.

Novak played 10 mins a game last year, and Booker played 21. Their mins have dropped slightly because of the team and conference they are now in, and what the objectives are for this team (player development). Novak particularly could see a lot of fluctuation in his minutes.

I see Exum eating into more of Burke's minutes at season's end, but think 24 mins a game is what it will round out to.

Okiee Dokee, brauggh

He does, but not to the extent that some of you are acting like. He's already earned a certain chunk, and am sure will earn the rest. This is a contract year. Acting like he won't play is absurd.
