What's new

Zach Lowe on Trevor Booker

Here is how I would do the rotations to start the year:

Burke (33 mins)/Exum (15 mins)/Clark (4 mins)
Burks (25 mins)/Hayward (10 mins)/Felix (7 mins)
Hayward (25 mins)/Hood (15 mins)/Novak (10 mins)
Kanter (25 mins)/Booker (25 mins)/Novak (5 mins)
Favors (33 mins)/Gobert (20 mins)

I really don't think you will see Burke and Exum together very much. Exum isn't physically ready for more minutes yet, and you don't want to hurt Exum's progression if Burke can't/won't defer. So, easy fix. Play them both as PG's, don't play them together, and after this year, next summer, and halfway through next year, let Exum get his body right, build up confidence against the opposing bench, if he is ready to start next December, move Burke to the bench or to another team. Easy fix.
gee
looking at this,
maybe Jazz should really think about trading some pieces.
Lots of ball players with similar talents but no All Star talent (except Exum, but he is still in the making)

Exum is already one of the most physically talented players in the NBA already,It's already been written he's going to get all the minutes he can handle.
One thing that stands out is that Exum doesn't look like he lacks confidence. The only place he'd lose confidence is sitting on the bench when he knows he's better than Burke and should be playing.Right now he's getting his playing shape in order playing with the Aussie National team,Starting friday the Aussies start playing exhibition games with other National teams.Exum should have 15 high quality games under his belt before he gets to Pre-season,There should be a noticeable change in his playing shape than the SL season. Will he be stronger...no but I'll take playing shape for now.If he's in playing shape ,he'll blow by guys that are *stronger*,because his speed/quickness advantage will trump the *stronger* players.

If you play Exum 30 mins a night you wreck his hammies, his shoulders, maybe hips, wrists and knees. He isn't strong enough to play 30 mins a night against men. Smart destroyed Exum. You think every nba team is t going to just push him around?

Huh?

We were having a discussion that you apparently haven't followed. To inform you, Green and GVC from this thread are skeptical about Kanter getting minutes. Others from the other Booker thread share this sentiment.

Cheers.
No one suggested he wouldn't play.

Green related a very good Zach Lowe article about desired big man skills in today's NBA to Kanter lacking those very skills. He pointed out that Booker has been a better passer to this point in his career, and that he may end up starting (at some point). I don't think he implied anywhere that Kanter wouldn't play (significant minutes).

I only stated that it's possible Booker complements the other starting players better than Kanter.

That you're unwilling or unable to engage in a discussion about Kanter's strengths/weaknesses is not our fault. Kanter is a 3 year pro now; if his play doesn't warrant minutes, he probably won't get minutes. I'm a little surprised he played as much as he did last season, considering his complete inability to execute on either end of the court.

His minutes could go down... and... that could still be a lot of minutes... given the average amount of minutes played by an NBA player.

Cheers.
