What's new

Reggie Miller on Enes Kanter

Basically what it comes down to is that we were only keeping Kanter OR Gobert. Sure, we said we would have liked to have kept both and had an awesome front court rotation, but realistically that wasn't going to happen. So the onliest question you have to ask yourself is: would you prefer to have Kanter or Gobert?

To me this is a no-brainer, which is why I have moved on.
No, the one that should have been traded or 3rd big was Favors. I get tired of saying Gobert was Kanters problem. Kanter and Gobert was the right combo period. The Jazz will see how Favors will not be clutch like Kanter.

I mean...

I respectfully disagree.

I looked at the box score. He put up 18 and 6 in 37 minutes. Not a big deal. Markieff did much better.

He was completely ignored in the 4th quarter and in the over time. He had like 18 points in 20 minutes with like 8 attempts. He could have got easily 30 points that night if Westbrook wouldn't have used 40 field goal attempts.
First two games he made pick and rolls with Kanter. The last game not one single try as far as I remember. Not just that, Kanter couldn't get the time to position in the lowpost because he had no time for it. Westbrook went for a jumper 50% of the time without waiting for the teammates (bad for off. rebounding). And Ibaka and Westbrook started with like 4/20 attempts combined. And Westbrook kept being selfish even he couldn't hit any jumpers that night (with some exceptions).

He was announcing the game last night on TNT. He could not stop raving about Kanter. Said things like they will run the offense through him, and i quote 'and why not'. He hardly talked about any other player except Steven Adams because of the Kanter situation. If the rest of the. Hall of Famers are as excited about Enes like Reggie and pretty much the entire national media, ESPN etc, the Jazz and DL are now the laughing stock of the league.

Enes shot 6 FTA yesterday and had 1 assist. Something fans said he could not do. Well he is now that a real team is built around him and the offense is ran through him as it should have been here.

Westbrook is leading the NBA is it's since Kanter (17,10,11). Kanter makes everyone around him better when utilized properly. Go KU!

You almost had me thinking you were really a new gay, then you said "Go KU."

From OKC Fans:

Worst triple double I've ever seen, Russ was bad Russ tonight

What a bad loss.. Just can't hit our shots and Russ tries to win it on his own.. Ibaka can't hit a layup.... Dion throws it away.. Nobody played well except Kanter.. Dion had a good game till the terrible turn over in O/T..

Russ man..... just too many shots tonight.. He had great numbers except his FG% .. a triple double.. but damn 12-38.. my gosh.. 1-10 from 3pt land.. Come on Russ.. That is not anywhere near what he's been doing the last 3 games.. why in the world does he does this crazy switch in mind set to be a 1 man shooter just baffles me... Why can't someone tell him on the sidelines to get higher % shots from other team mates.. trust the team.. no reason to try to win it all every single time down the court.. hero mode = loss way too many times in games like this.. Games like this KD is needed so badly to keep things under control.
1. Russ can be one of the best players in the world when he is playing good and getting the team involved i think he is an MVP when he plays liek that.. When he folds under pressure in close road games like this and tries to win the game on his own he is totally different. Still a great athletically talented player but he ends up finishing the game almost 1 on 5 and his support slowly fades away because all he does is dribble up and shoot the ball one way or the other.. I just don't understand why change the style that has been so great over the last few games.. I just wonder what goes through his mind to make him think he HAS to shoot the ball no matter what.... vs when he's relaxed and getting the rest of the team great open shots and trusting them to make it.. Pressure i guess and wanting so badly to win just changes the mindset apparently.

3. Waiters and Kanter and DJ all played good tonight.. All pickups.. we have so many weapons SOMEONE is going to be making a shot.. problem is we gave up on them going down the stretch.

Was waiting to see how Russ would handle this type of game. Playoff intensity game, close going into the 4th, rest of the guys not shooting lights out.....and he reverted to hero mode. He took 16 shots in the 4th/OT. Through 3 quarters was a typical Russ shooting poorly type game. Then he reverted to hero mode and tried to win the game himself. This is next step. Understanding that just because guys are struggling, doesn't mean you just play with blinders on. You have to keep getting everyone involved and keep the ball moving. There is no reason Russ should have ended up with 38 shots, 10 of them 3s. This is the next step. Its easy to keep the ball moving and keep everyone involved when the shots are going in, but he has to keep that mentality even when guys are struggling. Put your trust in them and they'll come through for you(this applies to KD as well).

Thought they should have definitely played through Kanter earlier and more often. After the first 3-4 missed shots, when it was 7-0, they should have slowed things down and played through Kanter. However, we saw why there is a good chance Adams starts when he gets healthy as Enes is pretty horrible defensively. For a guy with such great footwork on the block he is basically playing in cement on defense.

So basically Kanter could have a 30/10 night if Westbrook played a little bit teamball.
BUT in addition to that, Kanter's pick and roll defense was so horrible to watch. They exploited him. And still he had a good game.
I am not sure how Westbrook got a triple double (those assists) but he gave single handedly (and literally, in last play, missed a open layup for the tie-breaker) the match to PHX.

kanter is a very good playa. pretty funny how everyone was all up his booty here and then turned on him when the team turned on him. yall a buncha turncoats tbh. he's gonna be competin for a title this year and for years to come. lets see what the jazz are doin dis summer. this perpetual rebuild stuff is BS bros. we need to revolt. imma chain myself to the ESA nacho stand until justice is served. who's wit me.

I don't know how you can say that a player who can't defend and is a huge negative at any point he doesn't have the ball in his hands is good.

Technically, he turned first. Just throwing it out there.

I talked about that night. And he was was on 30/10 mode and no PHS player could stop him in his rare moments where he had the ball. They had to foul him or he got his points. And he was not a huge negative at any point. Westbrook and Ibaka were. Kanter actually kept OKC in the game in the 3rd quarter. His defense was bad but still he had a good game in that circumstances.

Ehhhh, you know why? Because RW is amazing and KD is injured.

You have a conspiracy theory going on eh?.... Why didn't we keep him? Because you can't keep all the young talent. At some point you have to pick what's best for the team and prioritize: you have restrictions on money, minutes and roles.

Are you willing to pay Kanter 15m/year and play him 30min a night when you have Gobert waiting for a bigger role (and paycheck in a few years)?

The FO made a reasonable decision. Sure, we didn't get much for him (and I like him as a player even with his obvious limitations) but at the end of the day it was the right move. He didn't like his role, the two sides were far apart on the money... we had to move on. I wish him well.

They had until RFA to make a deal. Everyone knows thats the best time to get maximum value. Teams in playoff hunts dont like to shake things up.

Jazz didnt wait that long because they ****ered the situation. Kanter got tired of DL bending him over and forced their hand. Jazz lost, bigtime.

Well yeah, Keeping Kanter in the game and NOT giving him a chance to score is a disaster on EVERY level, because he HAS to score at a high level to justify his presence in the game. Either feed him the ball or sit him down, becsude he doesn't bring ANYTHING else.

Jury is still out. Let's see what happens when OKC is full strength.

Why are you guys so butthurt? You cry and cry like your girlfriends left you.

If you watched that game, Westbrook and Ibaka had an off night. Whereas Kanter was doing fine. I'm not saying he had to score at a high level to justify his presence. I was saying he would have won the game for OKC if they played through him. Westbrook chose not to do it. Fine, the team lost. So it would have been the best for the team to play through him and Augustin instead of missing one jumper after one jumper (Westbrook 1/10 3pt).
And saying that he doesn't bring anything else is unfair. First of all, how many elite scoring bigs do you know? You sound like it is nothing special. Yes, we all know that some aspects of his defence just suck but he is most of the games an average defender. Last game he was worse than an average defender BUT still he could won the game for OKC.
I take a win over anything else. Scott Brooks benched him, too BUT he let him start in the overtime so they can win. But Westbrook took 10 or 12 sth like that field goal attempts in over time.
So, you can criticize him for playing bad in defence, but actually how good someone must be that he could still win the game for you even with having a bad defensive night.

I regret the notion that there has to be a winner and a loser in this trade. I can easily see a win win here.

Durant comes back and Kanter still provides that offensive punch in the paint and O rebounding that they need.

Jazz take their room and snag a dramatic upgrade in the backcourt.

Win win.
