Tomic offered buyout:

Yes. Smokescreens run rampant before the draft. Could also backfire if the Jazz are interested in buying him out and want to jump up for a wing, but everyone is focused on them drafting a big. It goes both ways.

My philosophy for team building is that you should acquire the highest level player that you can, put them together with the coaching staff and have them compete for jobs and playing time. I just want the best players Utah can get from each transaction they make.

And I don't want the results to be influenced or changed by their plans for Tomic. If they determine that Turner or Kaminsky is the best pick. . . I hope they take them. And then I hope they still buyout Tomic and bring him over.

Gobert, Favors, Tomic, Booker and Turner/Kaminsky would be such a badass front court. I trust Snyder to manage the lineup and minute distribution much better than Corbin did. I'd be very happy with that result this offseason.

The problem is, the best pick is different depending on Tomic. If he isn't coming, then Turner or Kaminsky at 12 makes sense. If he is, they would do better getting a wing, and might use future picks to move up and get the guy they want.

With the NBA offseason set up like it is, you can't count on free agency to work out a certain way for you. In this case, I'd do everything in my power to get the best player I can. Trade up, stay put, draft a wing, draft a center. . . it doesn't matter. Just add talent. After I know who I get, I can focus on my free agency strategy. Tomic is a part of that. Regardless of who I get in the draft, I'm going to try to get him to come over. Especially since my draft targets are primarily young guys who will need time to develop. I think that

Tomic fills a different role than Kaminsky/Turner since they can (potentially) play with either Gobert or Favors. WCS is the only guy that worries me in the top 12 or so prospects, because he's probably just a center playing with Favors/Booker. Adding Tomic to that group feels a bit like a traffic jam.

Tomic (and any free agents really) is more for immediate help and depth, while my draft pick is for taking a chance to draft and develop a long-term starter - hopefully an All-Star caliber player. You can't count on landing Tomic, but I wouldn't discount it either. Add talent, and let the coaching staff sort out the roles and playing time.

More info on the contract impasse. Sounds like it's in Utah's best interests for his team to keep winning. The interesting thing is that it sounds like someone jumped the gun announcing the extension with Barca big time.

Considering the radio silence from the Jazz since then, I wonder how much they're doing behind the scenes to express their interest to his camp. Should be interesting.

Ante Tomic remains undecided about his NBA plans.

Tomic was drafted by the Utah Jazz in 2008 and they would like to bring him over to help their frontcourt rotation.

"It’s neither yes nor no," Tomic told the Spanish publication Gigantes when asked whether he plans to leave Barcelona for the NBA and the Utah Jazz. "It’s difficult to summarize. Sometimes I see myself there and others no. I still have time to think it over."

Tomic has played for Barcelona since 2012 and is already 28 years old.

Good grief.

28 years old and still putting up kind of meh numbers in euro leagues and he is supposed to be the missing link between us and the ring? Hmmm. Yeah.

Meh numbers? What? Name a center in the Euroleague averaging better numbers on a good team.

People are failing to understand the ease Tomic would have in this offense. Who are these defense stalwart backup-5s he'll be going up against in the NBA? Speights? Maxiell? African dude in Charlotte? Hansbrough? Ian Mahinmi is probably the only one he'd have trouble with. Tomic will be fine.

He doesn't even need to score-- simply commanding some attention will provide space for him to find cutters. That's the whole ****ing point. He will provide on-POINT dimes for any cutter in this offense. Do yall realize how rare, elite, and sought-after of a skill that is? From a 7-footer no less?
