What's new

Head Coach Jerry Sloan to resign today :(

I'm on the "Sloan should retire" bandwagon, but I don't want to see the man go out like this. I hoped he would finish the season and then finish his career that way. I'm honestly shocked that this is happening.

Jerry Sloan and Phil Johnson. I feel 100x worse than Sloanfeld did when Boozer signed with the Bulls. Rejoice if you want, but for me this is a dark, dark day for Jazzbasketball. It's times like this I really miss Larry Miller.

Any way you slice it this is great news. Yeah, it's tough to imagine him not being the coach. But separate the emotion and this is what had to happen.

Well said. LIke I said...I am definitely conflicted. I am definitely sad. I never had ill will towards Coach Sloan. But this had to happen...

Maybe, MAYBE a good thing going forward. But with the timing and the weirdness and the way (and when) it all went down... this has all the makings of a season tail-spin.

I can't believe it went down like this. The man deserves better. This is a massive blow to the Jazz and to the State of Utah.

Thank you for 23 great and memorable years Jerry.

The end of an era, and the beginning of a new one. So sad and so exciting.

Today is a sad day. :(

Even though I felt like something had to give, I don't think this is the answer. I hope I'm wrong, but I have a feeling that the team is going to be in the lottery for some time once D-Will jumps ship.

I wish Sloan could've gone out the way he wanted, but he never won a Championship. He's a great coach, but was never quite good enough to get us over the top. I feel bad for Sloan, but at the same time this makes me so excited based on the fact that the Jazz NEVER do anything this risky.

I am definitely conflicted. Coach Sloan was great. But his time passed. Those that are really hurt by this need to realize that all things end. Even Sloans tenure. He did good here...but things will move on without him.

I agree, but let the guy finish the damn season, geez. This isn;t how it should have ended. I hoped for a retirement at season's end, but not this.

I sure hope it wasn't Deron's doing. The day the Jazz allow the a player to dictate such things is the day they lose all they once stood for.

I couldn't have put it any better myself. What a sad way for a HOF coach to walk away. Maybe we'll get a better explanation as to what happened at the press conference.

The longer Sloan stayed on board the higher the chances it would happen like this...he should have retired last year. I agree, it sucks its the middle of the season but everyone is ****ing frustrated.
