it's not the same. Dying cells or gametes on a day-to-day basis are not independent life forms-- they're extensions of a being that still exists after their demise.

Killing a zygote is the robbing of a unique life in this world. Nothing can be done to bring that life back-- that life ceases the moment it dies. Unfortunately, that's the way it is. Any barometer of 'life' placed on the zygote is essentially arbitrary-- if we're looking at what constitutes a living individual of a species in a scientific, biological manner, there really isn't a difference between a fertilized morula and a full-grown adult. Still the same genetic composition-- still an equal amount of being uniquely alive.


Anyone who overlooks this is simply overlooking the ethical precedent set with the arbitrary decision on what we constitute 'life' to be. After thinking about it a ton, it really does strike me as disingenuous to think that a zygote somewhere ascertains more 'life' as it continues to differentiate & specialize. That's why I'm personally anti-abortions.


But, I vote for pro-choice legislature. Access to abortions has reduced both rates and complications surrounding attempted abortions. I'm fine with my tx dollars going towards people getting abortions-- I just know that I won't do them myself, and I hope my children won't do them either.
 
Has this been proven to be legit or fake yet? I haven't heard whether this was real or not.

Just about ALL of their non government income comes from abortions. And, no, they haven't yet been put on trial. It seems damn clear, however that at the very least they are adjusting abortion practices to generate more baby parts which is against the law. They are likely guilty of other stuff as well, but they flat out admit to changing the procedures.

Cause if that's what they are being accused of, then I'm calling complete and total ********, and if you believe this to be true you're letting emotion get the best of you.

Yes, abortion sucks. It's messy, gruesome and sad. Obviously I support a women's right to choose since it's her body supporting that life till it moves out of the house. But like all these issues, abortion is a nuanced and complicated issue. Not a black and white one, like many of you like to frame it as. I understand though, it helps you understand it and frame it within your world view. Just be mindful that that is what you're doing.

For those touting "It's murder, and I don't support murder.", get the **** off it. You support various types of killing and ending of life all day everyday, but this issue just so happens to fit into that world view and the prescribed social conservative talking points you're supposed to follow.

Pro-choice folks don't like murder and if that's your argument you need to take a look in the mirror.

That's not really a problem anymore except in some developing nations. Largely due to abortion, contraceptives, opportunities for women, and people making the decision to have smaller families.

The Total Fertility Rate is the number of children birthed per woman. To replace a population in the industrialized world that rate needs to be 2.1. One child to replace each parent and .1 children because not all women will be fertile or survive into maturity. Any less than 2.1 and a population will decrease over time as older people die. Any more than 2.1 it will increase.

The US TFR is 1.7. In fact it has been below replacement rate for decades. The population growth in the United States is due to 2 main factors.

1) Population momentum caused by the Baby Boom/advances in healthcare. This factor will eventually take care of itself due to aging.
2) Immigration. This is the main cause for population growth in the US over the last ~20 years. The majority of immigrants were coming from Latin America and specifically Mexico. In 1980 Mexico had a TFR of 4.7 fueling mass immigration into the US. Mexico's TFR has since dropped to 2.2.

In fact the global TFR has dropped to 2.5 and the global replacement rate is 2.33 due to low life expectancy in developing countries. The trend is towards decreased fertility and once it drops it hasn't came back up anywhere where it has dropped. The continuing population growth over the next few decades will be almost entirely 'population momentum' and if the trend continues we are likely to have population contraction in the 2nd half of the 21st century.

Although population is something we should be mindful of as we approach huge numbers there is good reason to be optimistic. I don't think our children will starve due to overpopulation. Things are lookin up as TFR is trending down.

This. Outside of Africa and the Middle East rates are down in the vast majority of the rest of the world.

Some of the countries below the 2.1 threshold (as of 2012) are Turkey, France, US, Iran, UK, AUstralia, Brazil, China, Canada, Russia, Spain, Italy, Germany and Japan.

Some countries above it are:

Niger (#1 in the world at 7.58)
Israel (2.91)
Ethiopia (4.59)
Yemen (4.15)
Uganda (5.91)
Iraq (4.06)
India (most notably exception as they have a pop over 1 billion already, they have a 2.50)

When I refer to overpopulation I am referring to a world view, not just America. Many people adopt outside of the country.

Who cares about starving?
I'm sick of houses being developed in areas where I used to go fishing/hiking etc to get away from people.
I'm sick of there being people at every hike on the river and all along the shoreline of the lake and every parking area taken.

(I kid about the not caring about starving people btw)

Everywhere I look new houses ate going up constantly
 
I think a young life has more value than a 90 year old.

And I think a life outside of a sperm, egg, or uterus has more value than one inside a sperm, egg, or uterus.
