Australia Declares War on Feral Cats

This may be half a month old story, and a lot older to the Aussies, but I wanted to ask our Australian Jazz fan brethren out there about their opinions from inside about the feral cat problem of Australia.

What exactly is going on? Is it only about protecting the other mammals from extinction or something else? A change.org campaign knocked on my e-mail door about the issue so I started wondering.

Kiwi input is also welcome OneLove.

There is fricking cats everywhere there. It's disgusting. They aren't natural, they don't help anything. Get rid of them.

And you ****ing cat owners who let your cats outside...grow up. Take responsibility for your god damn cat. I'm sick of your cats ****ting in my garden. It's ridiculous. The neighbor can't figure out why every time he gets a cat it disappears. Allegedly a neighbor got sick of it ****ting in his flower garden, so he set up small traps and properly disposes of feral cats that wander around the neighborhood. Allegedly.

Why is it ok for a cat to wander around a neighborhood but not a dog? Cats are just as destructive.

I don't hate cats. I love cats. But I dislike people who don't properly take care of their cat.

I read a study about cats that I am too lazy to track down but it basically said that cats reduce the bird population in cities by 90% because owners let them wander around. Cats lives are also greatly reduced by being outdoor cats.

Cats rule the world.

George Noury hosts Coast to Coast and discusses aliens, over twenty different kinds of aliens, and all the possible hybrids, and holds forth about the corporates, the Bilderbergers and so forth. But I noticed he "jokes" about being part of the secret government we're not supposed to know anything about, and he has never, never, ever said anything about the cats.

Do you "own" a cat, or does a cat "own" you? It's always the fact that your cat owns you, never the other way around. If you don't think so, ask your cat. Well, at least look at it, sitting there on the window sill in the sunbeam, and try to figure out who feeds who, and who cleans the poop. duh.

I wouldn't be so rash as to just put stuff about cats in the webz that essentially identifies you as a rebel in this world.

My neighborhood has a facebook page and at least once a week somebody posts something about not having seen their cat in a while. It takes everything in me not to track them down and bitch slap them.

Does this mean it would be legal now to just go and kill as many feral cats as one wished?

Of course not,

Aussie Govt is no different than ours. Killing an animal gets treble penalty over doing the same thing to a human, and cats are treble treble triple trouble, because cats rule.

You have to call the govt high priests to humanely secure them back in their throne rooms.

All my cats I have ever had are outdoor cats mostly. They come in when they want. I laugh as they **** up the world around them.

it's been a problem for a long time, cats get into the national parks and forests and kill the native wildlife, particularly rare animals like lyrebirds etc. Quite a few local councils have had a cats inside curfew at night for quite some time, even going back 20-25 years.

I vote that you can't call it wildlife if it gets its *** kicked by this frightening creature. It should be called littlebitchlife:P

Regardless of nationality, people always bring out their cute little kitten images that they can find instantly on google to make it look like the problem is those little kittens instead of the real feral cats.

Another question is; are feral cats you are talking about the same with outdoor cats? I fed 3 outdoor cats before. They are free animals but they are domesticated. Cats naturally feed on birds and such other lesser creatures but outdoor cats don't act as wild as Australians talk about. So I think feral cats are something else than outdoor cats. Is this right?

Growing up my family had a habit of adopting feral cats.

Lamme just say, cats are about a whisker shy of being feral, no matter what.

Cats don't give a ****. If we adopt them we subsidize their murderous ways. We just feed them enough to make their kills a treat instead of their supper.

Cats are killers. Killers. They are cold blooded (they are actually warm blooded mammals, just shut up) killers.

Are you drunk?

Game has a point, but that is not invalidated even if he has been liking his latest brew.

I have studied cats close up. I let a cat go free last week on my farm, much to my daughters' dismay because, well, "John" is a very sweet and loving pet they've raised from a kitten. So, the first thing they did this week was go looking for him. Well, he wasn't far from the house, but they found him eating a rabbit he had just taken down, who was still thumping the ground for a minute more. With a lot of grass around for over a year of wet weather, rabbits have become a plague now.

The fact is, cats have been useful to mankind as rodent control and bird control agents for thousands of years. I don't think Game knows much about the exponential population growth that occurs in nature among many species. Even fish will overpopulate the ocean if not for sharks and such. Humans need to understand these predators who serve as natures ZPG police. Feral cat populations will "explode", too. Same with Lions or cougars, but their population spikes lag behind, in a phase-offset relation, with their food supply.

"Killers" are a necessary part of nature.

Birds are killers, too. Without them, we'd have issues about mosquitos more than we do.

What we do that is wrong in relation to cats is we feed them Purina. If the Aussies exterminate their feral cats in their pristine natural parks, Nature will return to whatever it was, closer to the pre-Purina epoch. Just stop feeding the ferals, folks.

the feral cats you're probably talking about aren't just domesticated cats let out at night, they're supposedly kittens that have been dumped or run off and then grown up and bred in the wild. Not the ******* that go out to kill a few birds and then come home to lie in front of the fire. They're markedly bigger and far more ferocious, hostile to animals and don't go near people. They make the most awful sounds

Domestic and feral cats are one and the same. Domestic cats are fully capable of survival in the wild, and often wreck havoc on native life. In fact, there are hundreds of examples of cats (and rats) arriving on previously unknown islands on ships, and quickly causing a mass extinction event on the island.

these ones are bigger and absolutely crazy. I've seen quite a few of them
