Exum Injured

I don't think anybody is forgetting that. You (and some others) are saying that it doesn't really matter that Dante is gone and some of us disagree. My expectation was that PG would still be behind this year in development, but it was acceptable because Dante's ceiling was so high. In addition I felt like he would probably be up to speed by year three. Now I don't. I see this as a major problem that needs a solution. The best solution would be for one or two of our three current PGs to elevate their game to a new level, but I think it's more likely DL will eventually have to cash in assets for an upgrade. In my view Dante's injury changes the plan significantly.
I agree with you. The injury sucks for dante and the jazz future.

My argument has been with those that say since dante is hurt we won't make the playoffs this season and that this season will be boring and suck and we might as well not watch it

Also, remember steph curry and his ankles.
GS got curry on a fantastic deal because everyone was scared of his ankles and, due to his ankles, he hadn't produced much. Then he blew up, they had him for cheap, had plenty of money to spend on free agents, and won a championship.

This could be a blessing in disguise. (Unlikely, but possible)

It is only unlikely because Dante would never in a million years have become a Curry-level player. Every time the guy falls to the floor, we get a bunch of posts about how they "hope it doesn't shatter his confidence".

Curry was already a very good player before the ankle injuries; Dante is not.

Doesn't change my main point...... Which is that we may get dante much cheaper on his second contract than we would have if he didn't get injured.
If that happens then we are likely to be getting the true dante (whether that is a backup, starter, or all star level talent) at a discount. Just like gs did with curry.

Maybe you are forgetting that we upgraded our bench, got Burks back, and will see improvements from Gobert, hood, favors, Hayward, Snyder and more.

We gonna be good this year without dante

I didn't say we won't be good, but you said we'll be just as good without him and I do not agree.

Ya, there is no way for either of us to know that.
I'm not exactly sure how much his defense really helped us (apparently the team was better defensively with trey than dante according to recent stats that Locke posted) and I'm also not sure how much his offense hurt us

You mean the stats where Dante was defending starters and Trey was defending backups? It's OK if you're not sure, cuz I'm sure enough for both of us.

There will be an intense step-down in defense from Dante to Trey IMO. It really hurts to think about. With Dante, we're a top-3 defense IMO. Without him, who knows. Trey needs to improve every aspect of his game in every way for this coming season-- or Neto just needs to emerge as a stout defensive pest with great passing and IQ. We're ****ed otherwise.

Sometimes dante guarded backups and sometimes trey guarded starters too doe.

My point was that when gobert and favors are in the game our defense is good.
They will probably both be in the game allot, therefore our defense will be good.
I think dante being out most likely helps our offense. (And before you say "trey will just ball hog and shoot 2-16" remember that trey is not the only option..... We could make a trade, cotton or neto could win the job, we could play an unconventional lineup with Burks, hood, and Hayward, etc...... There is a chance that trey could even alter his game and shoot less and he could become more efficient)

OK, so are we really discussing the possibility that Trey is the superior defender?
No, I just get annoyed at the insinuation - you're not alone - that starters only play against starters and bench players only play against bench players. Just a pet peeve. That's all. I'll bow out now. Carry on.

You're a lumberjack?

I was an arborist. I removed unhealthy/unwanted limbs and trees mostly in the city. A lumberjack works in the forest and cuts down trees for lumber. I'm going back to school cuz I want to have working joints and stuff when I'm old.

Blasphemy! There's no way Burke gets better after two years of college and two years of NBA experience. Despite the piles of data that suggest point guards do just that. He has maxed out at the ripe ole age of 22 and despite his reputation as a tireless worker he cannot get significantly better. You should be banned for even suggesting the possibility.

OK, so people keep bringing up these stats from Locke that show the team was better defensively with Trey. So either you believe Trey is a better defender, or perhaps the numbers are misleading for one reason or another.

I think this affects our future more than our present. Exum will lose a year of developing with the core and his time table will be a little off now.
