The nation of my ancestry is forever impacted by Ottoman influence-- especially in terms of diet and music!! Baklava, byrek, etc.

My mother uses pecans, actually. Not sure what you mean by levers, but she hand-rolls a ton of super-thin dough and bakes it, and then submerges it in vats of sugar-water (and sometimes honey).

Thank you for your words, and congrats. Eid mubarak to past and upcoming Eids for you, your family, your peers, and whomever you know who celebrates!

Pecans in baklava? Are you sure it's not walnuts? I love making baklava, and I might try it with pecans to see what it's like. I've made it with pistachios, walnuts, pine nuts, sweet cheese, and chocolate. But never pecans.

Lol baklava? I love that you guys have it as tradition too.

40 levers? Pistachio or walnut?

Btw eid mubarak to you too for both this past one and the upcoming. And past ramadan and all the other days.

I post therefore I am...

Did you try it with skimmings(kaymak, it's basically made of milk, sugar and rice powder) inbetween. Baklava is the sexiest dessert and I love it in all shapes and colors. Still love Turkish Delight more, though.

100% sure. My mom used to always use walnuts, but she herself decided to move to pecans cuz she thinks it tastes better.

Never second-guess Mama Dal-- best cook/baker I've ever met, and ppl routinely ask for her byreks and baklavas for weddings.

Baklava with walnuts is my favourite. Kadaif is tasty also.

we have Albanian family friends who make kadaif (I love this man, hahahaha, we've all had the SAME foods!!! This is nuts) but I've never really liked theirs! My mom doesn't make it, and I've never had it in Europe. I'll make sure to try some legit kadaif soon :)

at first I was like "pecans in baklava? What's so unusual about that?"

Then I realized that pecans only grow in Mexico and the Southern US. Huh!! Didn't know that!!

But srsly, pecans taste fantastic in baklava lol. They're expensive, otherwise I'd either tell you Turks to order them or send y'all some myself.

there's a skit called Macedonian Cafe done by Key and Peele that talks about regional similarities in dishes between Albanians and Macedonians. It got taken down, but part of it can be seen here. "Mother bitches" = funniest thing of all time (my relatives say it all the time)

literally the most accurate video ever.

Of course it fits great! Slides through your throat like a piece of butter on a hot plate. Are you in Istanbul? Try Haci Bekir's kaymakli lokum.

I forget which of y'all live in Istanbul, and which live in İzmir. I'll have to visit someday though.

I hear the women in Izmir are incredibly attractive.
